EWTN to provide live feed, media resources for Fulton Sheen beatification

EWTN will provide live video feeds and other media resources for news organizations covering the Sept. 24 beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen in St. Louis.

Domestic and international outlets will have access to live coverage of vespers Sept. 23 at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis and the beatification Mass the following day at the Dome at America’s Center, the Catholic network said in a Sept. 15 announcement published by PR Newswire.

The shared feeds will allow television networks, local stations, digital news organizations, and international broadcasters to carry the liturgies for audiences around the world, according to the announcement.

Footage from St. Louis and the Diocese of Peoria, Illinois, will also be distributed through AP News, with additional video available through CNN Newsource, according to EWTN.

Archbishop Sheen will become the first U.S.-born bishop to be beatified.

Through his preaching, writing, and pioneering work in radio and television, Archbishop Sheen became one of the most recognizable Catholic figures of the 20th century. His Emmy Award-winning program “Life Is Worth Living” brought Catholic teaching to millions of American homes.

Following beatification, a second Church-approved miracle would be required for Ven. Sheen to be canonized. Monsignor Jason Gray, executive director of the Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Foundation, told Zeale News in July that five reported miracles have emerged as potential leads that could advance his cause.

The announcement highlighted that the beatification was moved from Archbishop Sheen’s home diocese of Peoria to St. Louis to accommodate the more than 65,000 people expected to attend.
