Bishop Robert Barron’s Heaven in Stone and Glass, according to an April 29 press release from Fathom Entertainment, was prompted by the world’s response to the April 2019 fire that ravaged the Notre-Dame Cathedral.
The fire, the press release stated, “captivated global audiences and ignited an overwhelming response of loss, awe, and shared cultural grief. Why did the threat to this sacred space resonate so deeply, even among those with no religious affiliation? Bishop Robert Barron returns to France to answer this question, taking the viewer on a cinematic pilgrimage.”
The movie is produced in collaboration with Spirit Juice Studios, and it is Word on Fire’s first theatrical release.
Bishop Barron, the release states, makes the transcendent accessible in the new documentary, which is directed to religious and non-religious audiences alike.
“In Heaven in Stone and Glass,” the release states, “he leads audiences inside five of France’s most awe-inspiring Gothic cathedrals, unlocking the theological genius encoded in every soaring arch, blazing rose window, and spiraling labyrinth.”
“In our spiritually hungry time, the cathedrals can do what they have always done for those who are open,” Bishop Barron said. “They reveal divine treasures that our secular world has forgotten.”
