A new poll found a majority of Americans (67%) support legal limits on abortion, and even more (84%) support crisis pregnancy centers.
The survey of 1,408 U.S. adults was conducted by Marist Poll on behalf of the Knights of Columbus. In a Jan 22 press release, Marist Poll Director Barbara Carvalho explained that “there remains a consensus of opinion” on abortion among Americans, who “believe abortion should be limited yet include exceptions for rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother.”
“Despite the changes in practice that have occurred since the Supreme Court’s landmark Dobbs decision, public opinion has remained consistent,” Carvalho added.
Patrick Kelly, supreme knight of the Knights of Columbus, drew particular attention to the positive opinion most Americans have of pro-life crisis pregnancy centers.
“A growing majority support pregnancy resource centers, which provide assistance to mothers and their children in their time of greatest need,” Kelly said in the release.
As CatholicVote has previously reported, crisis pregnancy centers have become a political flashpoint in recent years. They faced significant opposition by Democratic politicians in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Jersey in 2025 and New York in 2024. In 2023, the Democratic attorneys general of 16 states signed an open letter accusing the centers of misleading expectant women by not recommending abortion.
The poll results also show that most Americans (63%) believe health care professionals who object to abortion for religious reasons should not be forced to perform the procedure.
The vast majority of those polled (88%) also agreed that laws can protect both mothers and unborn children.
Kelly said the Knights of Columbus has a 140-year history of supporting women and children.
“We’re guided by the encouraging words of Pope Leo XIV, who recently mentioned in his ‘State of the World’ address, ‘life is a priceless gift,’ and that, as Catholics, we have a ‘fundamental ethical imperative’ to ‘welcome and fully care for unborn life,’” Kelly said. “The Knights of Columbus’ mission will continue to be guided by these principles until abortion becomes unthinkable.”
