As the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) brings rapid changes to social media, the internet, and television, a new video series can help parents understand how to protect their children online.
A Feb. 17 press release from Family Theater Productions and the Daughters of St. Paul explains that the two organizations partnered to create the YouTube video series Digital Age Family Safety.
“This timely resource equips parents and guardians with practical tools for media mindfulness, critical discernment, and protection against dehumanizing content,” said Sister Nancy Usselmann of the Daughters of St. Paul, who gives advice to parents throughout the series. “Infused with Gospel values, the series helps to safeguard the home as a space for authentic faith, encounter, and responsibility amid digital immersion.”
Family Theater Productions’ national director, Father David L. Guffey, C.S.C, stated in the release that while technology can bring access to education, it also can expose children to danger.
“A child holding a phone, iPad, or computer, holds a potential doorway to knowledge, education, and fun,” he said. “But without vigilant care, that doorway may bring vulgarity, violence, and things children are not prepared for. Our new series helps parents get the most from technology for their families, with best practices to protect them from harm.”
The dangers that social media and AI present to developing minds has been gaining national attention in recent years. In 2025, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry warned that some children may develop an unhealthy attachment to AI due to the way the technology mimics human behavior.
The National Library of Medicine also published a study in 2025 that suggested that when youths excessively use digital platforms, their risk of impulsivity, attention deficits, addiction-like behaviors, and body dysmorphia rises.
