Catholics will have the opportunity to spiritually prepare for America’s 250th anniversary with an upcoming 60-day devotional journal filled with prayers, Scripture passages, and historical meditation.
Paraclete Press will release God Bless America: Scriptures, Devotions & Prayers for Our Nation on April 13, according to a recent email press release from the group.
“I prayed for direction before writing God Bless America,” author Bonnie Rickner Jensen said. “I was excited about the book, having grown up with parents who feared God and loved this country. Initially, I set out to brush up on our history and the people who shaped it. God had other plans for guiding me through this project.”
Jensen said that she realized that God was asking her to reflect on how He established the U.S. She quoted Acts 17:26, which states, “From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.”
The journal includes reflections and prompts specifically tailored to American citizens, focusing on values like freedom, hope, unity, and remembrance.
“It is God who established this nation. He birthed it through the hearts of the brave men and women who prayed for His mercy and saw His hand move,” Jensen concluded. “We fall into the trap of our real enemy by allowing hatred and division to prevail in our hearts, even in the slightest measure. God built this nation. Our fear of God will sustain it.”
