St. Jane Frances de Chantal carried a deep love for Christ through every season of her life. As a wife and mother, she devoted herself to her family, making daily Mass and care for those in need a regular part of life in her home.

When her husband died after a hunting accident, Jane was left with profound grief. In the difficult years that followed, she met St. Francis de Sales, who became her spiritual director and helped her deepen her trust in God. Their friendship eventually opened the way to a new vocation in her life.

Together, Jane and Francis founded the Congregation of the Visitation, welcoming women whose health, age, or other circumstances made the stricter practices of existing religious orders difficult. The community offered Jane a new way to give herself to Christ through prayer, humility, and loving service.

Her years in religious life were not without suffering. Jane experienced further losses as well as periods of spiritual dryness and interior struggle, yet she continued to serve faithfully, caring for the sick and guiding the sisters entrusted to her.

Through marriage and motherhood, grief and religious life, St. Jane Frances continued to seek Christ and follow where He led. Her life offers a beautiful witness to the faithfulness of God, who remains near through every season and can draw us closer to Himself even along paths we never expected to walk.

St. Jane Frances de Chantal, pray for us!
