St. Mary Magdalene is remembered as one of Christ's most devoted disciples, whose life was transformed by His mercy. After Jesus freed her from seven demons, she followed Him with unwavering devotion and became the first witness to His Resurrection.
Mary was from the Galilean town of Magdala, from which she received her name. She accompanied Jesus throughout His public ministry and remained at the foot of the Cross, faithfully standing by her Lord throughout His Passion.
On Easter morning, Mary encountered the risen Christ at the empty tomb. When He called her by name, she recognized Him and was sent to announce His Resurrection to the apostles, earning her the title "Apostle to the Apostles." In 2016, Pope Francis raised her memorial to the rank of a feast in recognition of her witness to the Resurrection.
St. Mary Magdalene's life is a beautiful witness to the transforming power of Christ's mercy. Having encountered the risen Lord, she became the first to proclaim the joy of His Resurrection. May her example inspire us to seek Christ with faithful hearts, trust in His mercy, and joyfully share the hope of the Gospel.
