St. Martin de Porres dedicated his life to caring for the sick and poor, bringing Christ's love to those often overlooked by society. As a Dominican religious brother in Peru, he became known for his deep humility, devotion to prayer, and compassion for those in need.

Born in Lima, Peru, Martin experienced discrimination because of his mixed ancestry. After his father left the family, he was raised by his mother and trained as a barber, learning medical skills that would later help him care for the sick.

Drawn to religious life, Martin entered the Dominican community as a lay helper before professing religious vows. He devoted himself to serving those in need, extending his charity to people of every background and social standing.

His compassion also led him to help establish an orphanage and provide assistance to young women in need. Remembered for miraculous healings and a special affection for animals, Martin continued his life of prayer and service until his death in 1639.

St. Martin de Porres offers a beautiful example of what it means to see Christ in others and respond with love. His life encourages us to serve with humility, open our hearts to those who are suffering, and recognize the dignity of every person as a beloved child of God.

St. Martin de Porres, pray for us!
