A new immersive podcast featuring several well-known Hollywood actors chronicles the life of Christ and brings the Gospels to life. New episodes are being released throughout Holy Week.
“The Christ” is touted as “an Easter audio epic” and “a cinematic audio journey from birth to Ascension,” according to its website. It provides a retelling of Jesus’ birth, ministry, Passion, and Resurrection “through world-class voice talent, cinematic soundscapes, and stirring music.”
The first of four episodes dropped March 30, with the second following on March 31. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the entire series is scheduled to be released on Good Friday, April 3.
The podcast features Tom Pelphrey as Jesus, Paul Walter Hauser as John the Baptist, David Oyelowo as Pontius Pilate, and Courtney Hope as the Virgin Mary. Patricia Heaton hosts the show, while John Rhys-Davies narrates the Gospels. It is written and directed by Paul Cuschieri, co-directed by Mark Ramsey, and produced by Ramsey and Jim Young.
“We are altogether humbled, honored and excited to share the story of Christ in audio format during the holiest week of the year,” Cuschieri stated last year when the podcast was announced, according to Faith Podcasts. “It is going to be a challenge as we will be, quite literally, on sacred ground. But we hope to deliver a series that honors the gospel in a way that has never been done in the audio space.”
In a February 2026 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Pelphrey provided insights into his portrayal of Jesus in the series. He said the opportunity excited him, adding, “Faith is such a big part of my life.” He shared that he was raised Catholic but had his faith rekindled when he became sober more than 12 years ago.
“Maybe a lot of people can relate to this, but I think of my faith like the story of the prodigal son,” he said, later adding, “To now have an opportunity to be a part of telling a story about Jesus, who I believed saved my life, and for that story to possibly help someone who has felt lost, stranded, sad or scared, is deeply meaningful to me.”
“The Christ” is available on all major audio platforms, its website, and Faith Podcasts.
