Newly released data on President Donald Trump’s approval ratings ahead of the November midterm elections has caused some pollsters to sound the alarm as his support reaches a new low. Other findings, however, suggest his ratings have remained relatively stable.
An AP-NORC poll conducted Feb. 5–8 found that 36% of U.S. adults approve of Trump’s handling of the presidency, similar to ratings he received over the past two months. Consistent with ratings on immigration policy in January, the poll found that nearly four in 10 adults approve of Trump’s handling of immigration, despite widespread media coverage of border enforcement officers fatally shooting two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis last month. Public opinion of his handling of the economy appears unchanged.
An Economist/YouGov poll conducted Feb. 6–9 found similar approval ratings for Trump’s overall job performance (37%) but reported that 46% of respondents said Trump is doing a worse job as president than former President Joe Biden. Forty percent said Trump is doing better, and 7% considered the two presidencies about equal.
According to the same poll, four in 10 U.S. adults approve of Trump’s immigration policy, while about five in 10 disapprove. Just over three in 10 support his handling of the economy, and nearly six in 10 disapprove.
A Silver Bulletin average found Trump’s approval rating at a net -15, which analyst Eli McKown-Dawson called the president’s second-term low. According to the pollster’s measurements of presidential approval ratings, Biden had a -11.5 net approval rating at this point in his presidency, while Trump had a net -12 rating at this point during his first term. Feb. 16 data from conservative-leaning Rasmussen Reports, however, found that 46% of likely voters approve of Trump’s job performance and 52% do not, giving him a net -12 rating.
On X, Rasmussen Reports’ Mark Mitchell reposted data from InteractivePolls, which shows Trump’s approval falling sharply among younger demographics. Among U.S. adults aged 18 to 44, 72% disapproved of Trump and 27% approved. AP-NORC discovered a similar trend, finding that just 25% of adults aged 18 to 29 approve of Trump’s presidency, compared with 67% who do not. According to an Economist/YouGov poll from February 2025, Gen Z formerly backed Trump, with 52% of adults aged 18 to 29 approving of him and 43% disapproving.
