McELROY TO BE NEW DC ARCHBISHOP
Multiple sources reported this weekend that Pope Francis will pick Cardinal Robert McElroy of San Diego to succeed the retiring Cardinal Wilton Gregory as Archbishop of Washington. McElroy is widely considered to be a liberal prelate. Over the past few years, he has made headlines for supporting the administration of Holy Communion to President Joe Biden and for pushing for LGBTQ acceptance within the Church.

CHURCH IN HAWAII LAUNCHES SEA MINISTRY
The Catholic Church in Hawaii launched the Hawaii Apostleship of the Sea Ministry last month. The ministry deploys a ship to bring the Eucharist to seafarers who are otherwise unable to attend Mass and receive the sacraments.

A pro-life activist protesting outside an Ohio abortion facility was detained by police and charged with disorderly conduct on account of the volume of the megaphone the activist was using to give Christian witness to the women entering the facility.

EUGENE BALTES, REST IN PEACE
Eugene Baltes (1914-2024) of River Grove, Illinois, passed away on December 29 at the age of 110. Baltes, a World War II veteran and devoted Catholic, was the oldest living American man at the time of his death.
