“Los Angeles Times owner Dr. Pat Soon-Shiong reminded followers how ‘competence matters’ regarding LA mayor Karen Bass during the ongoing Pacific Palisades fires,” FOX News reports. “As wildfires continued to rage across Los Angeles County on Wednesday, Soon-Shiong directed his X followers to his paper for live updates on the situation while appearing to criticize Bass’s handling of the city before the crisis.”
TRUMP ASKS COURT TO BLOCK PRE-INAUGURATION SENTENCING
President-elect Donald Trump petitioned the Supreme Court Wednesday to block his sentencing slated for Friday in the controversial Manhattan “hush money” case. Friday is exactly ten days before Trump’s presidential inauguration.

A handful of Democratic senators announced Wednesday that they will vote Friday to break the filibuster on the Laken Riley Act. Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-AZ, announced he will co-sponsor the legislation along with fellow Democrat John Fetterman, D-PA, who announced his support a day earlier.
BILL WOULD MAKE DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME PERMANENT
Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-FL, has filed a bill in Congress aiming to abolish the biannual time change and make daylight saving time permanent. The proposed Sunshine Protection Act aims to end the practice of “springing forward” and “falling back.”
GRAND JURY POINTS TO ‘PROFOUND’ ISSUES WITH COVID SHOT ROLLOUT
A Florida statewide Grand Jury investigating the production and safety of the COVID-19 injections found “profound and serious issues involving the process of vaccine development and safety surveillance in the United States.” Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis cited the findings, which were released Tuesday, in calling for more oversight of Big Pharma.

SAINT OF THE DAY
Tradition holds that St. Adrian of Canterbury (d. 710) was likely born in Libya, North Africa. He became a monk early in his life, then an abbot in Italy, and later an advisor to Pope Vitalian. Adrian eventually accompanied the newly-appointed Archbishop of Canterbury to England, where he was instrumental in fostering a cohesive English church and established a flourishing monastic school.
