Catholic churches in Los Angeles County have opened their doors to families fleeing the region’s fires. St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica has provided locals with snacks and a place to wash up. “We have dozens and dozens of parishioners and school families who have lost everything,” said Director of Parish Life Merrick Siebenaler.

A federal district court Thursday morning threw out the Biden administration’s pro-LGBTQ rewrite of Title IX, which critics say undermined women’s and girls’ sports. The ruling applies to the entire country.

SEN. FETTERMAN REPORTEDLY VISITING TRUMP THIS WEEKEND
Sen. John Fetterman, D-PA, announced Thursday that he will meet with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago in the coming days. “Yes, we are going to have a conversation,” Fetterman said, adding that he thought it was “pretty reasonable” that the incoming president would like to speak with him. “And no one is my gatekeeper.”

STORM VICTIMS FORCED TO PAY TAXES ON DESTROYED HOMES
Several counties in North Carolina that were devastated by Hurricane Helene announced that property owners were required to pay full taxes on their homes by Jan. 6, even if their homes were damaged or destroyed. “There’s obviously a lot of people panicking,” said Brian Balfour, senior vice president of research at the John Locke Foundation.

St. Gregory of Nyssa (335-394) was the brother of St. Basil the Great. Gregory was ordained a priest and later became the bishop of Nyssa during a period of great tension in the Church. He was briefly deposed before being reinstated, to the great joy of his people. He lived on after the death of his brother Basil and is known for his peacekeeping and writings on the Trinity.
