President Donald Trump signed a bill yesterday to reopen the federal government after a 43-day shutdown — the longest in U.S. history. The signing ceremony came just hours after the House voted 222-209 to pass the measure.
BISHOPS DENOUNCE DEHUMANIZING ANTI-IMMIGRANT RHETORIC
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops yesterday issued a Special Pastoral Message decrying "the state of contemporary debate and the vilification of immigrants" in the U.S. "We pray for an end to dehumanizing rhetoric and violence, whether directed at immigrants or at law enforcement," the bishops stated.

And how often do we believe that God doesn't really give much of a thought or effort towards us? Not only did Jesus suffer for us, but he suffered far, far more than he needed to, purely out of love. Here's a reflection on this astounding reality we have such a hard time fathoming.
SAINT OF THE DAY
The youngest of 13 children, Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850-1917) founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1880. Arriving in New York in 1889, Mother Cabrini served thousands of Italian immigrants and built orphanages, hospitals, convents, and schools across the country. She and her sisters encountered many difficulties and setbacks but always persevered.
