TRUMP DEMANDS IRAN MAKE STRAIT OF HORMUZ SAFE

President Donald Trump yesterday responded to reports that Iran planned to place mines in the Strait of Hormuz – a narrow waterway between Iran and Oman through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes. Trump said that if mines were placed in the strait, Iran must remove them immediately or the U.S. will “take out easily destroyable targets that will make it virtually impossible for Iran to ever be built back, as a nation, again….”

LEBANON CALLS VATICAN TO INTERVENE FOR CHRISTIANS

Lebanon’s foreign minister is urging the Vatican to intervene to help protect Christian villages in southern Lebanon as fighting between Israel and the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah intensifies. The request comes one day after a Maronite Catholic priest, Father Pierre al-Rahi, was killed when an Israeli tank shell struck a home in the Christian-majority village of Qlayaa.

Pope Leo yesterday accepted the resignation of Bishop Emanuel Hana Shaleta of the Chaldean Catholic Eparchy of Saint Peter the Apostle of San Diego.
