SCOTUS TEMPORARILY ALLOWS MAIL-ORDER ABORTION PILLS

The Supreme Court yesterday issued a stay against a federal court decision that had reimposed safety regulations on the abortion pill mifepristone. The stay will remain in effect at least until May 11 as the Court considers taking up the case at the request of drug companies. Louisiana, which originally sued for the restrictions to be reimposed, has until May 7 to submit a response.

DEM CANDIDATE SCRUTINIZED OVER ANTI-CATHOLIC TEXTS

Democratic congressional candidate J.P. Cooney, running for Virginia’s 7th District on a platform that stresses accountability and integrity, is facing scrutiny over reported anti-Catholic text messages from 2021. The Notre Dame graduate and then-Justice Department employee reportedly texted, "I’d like to prosecute any nun who still wears the head habit.”

GUNMAN SHOT BY SECRET SERVICE NEAR WHITE HOUSE

A suspect opened fire on the National Mall, just a few blocks from the White House, after being confronted by officers. The incident prompted Secret Service personnel to return fire and wound the individual. The shooter opened fire near the time when Vice President JD Vance's motorcade was scheduled to drive through the area, but it remains unclear whether Vance was his target.

FORMER NYC MAYOR GIULIANI IN CRITICAL CONDITION

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, 81, is hospitalized with pneumonia and remains in critical but stable condition. A spokesperson yesterday said Giuliani was placed on mechanical ventilation after the illness complicated a preexisting restrictive airway disease tied to his exposure to debris after the 9/11 terror attacks. According to the latest reports, Giuliani is now breathing on his own.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a new congressional map into law that could shift the state's House delegation from 20-8 Republican to 24-4. The legislation follows a Supreme Court ruling that race cannot be the predominant factor in drawing districts.
