For over 2,000 years Christian women have covered their heads in church around the world. Although veiling at the Catholic Mass largely disappeared after the liturgical “reforms” of Vatican II, the practice has made a comeback in the United States in recent years.
Many women choose to start veiling as a sign of reverence or a desire to honor God in a visible way while they pray. The theologian Alice von Hildebrand wrote, “Veiling indicates sacredness and it is a special privilege of the woman that she enters church veiled.”
