The Holy See Press Office announced today that Pope Leo XIV will make several apostolic journeys in the coming months, including visits to Monaco, four African nations, and Spain, marking the first major international trips of his 2026 schedule.
The Holy Father will travel March 28 to the Principality of Monaco, in what will be the first papal visit to the country in modern history. The trip comes at the invitation of the heads of state and the archbishop of Monaco.
Beginning April 13, Pope Leo XIV will embark on a 10-day apostolic journey to Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea. Vatican News stated the visit to Algeria will follow in the footsteps of St. Augustine of Hippo, the early Church father closely associated with the region. His Holiness is then expected to visit several other regions during the month of April with his final stops in Malabo, Mongomo, and Bata.
Concluding his apostolic journey in Spain June 6 to 12, Pope Leo XIV will visit Madrid and Barcelona, where he is expected June 10 to inaugurate the tallest and most recently constructed tower of the Sagrada Familia, the Tower of Jesus Christ.
The Holy Father’s visit will coincide with the centenary of the death of the basilica’s architect Antoni Gaudí, who last year was declared a venerable servant of God.
While the Vatican has not officially confirmed specific details of the trip, the scheduled dates coincide with the June 10 inauguration of the newly constructed tower of the Sagrada Familia.
