A pro-life group in Massachusetts will host a memorial event called “Truth About Choice” on April 12, raising awareness to the thousands of pre-born children killed annually by abortion.
According to Massachusetts Citizens for Life, the event — the first of its kind in the state — aims to honor the 49,450 lives lost to abortion in 2024 and “comfort, inform, convert and mobilize” attendees. It will be held on the campus lawn of the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
The project will include interactive educational content and “a fetal model display representing each life ended in the violence of elective abortion,” through which the pro-life group will shine a light “on the uncomfortable truths about ‘choice,’” the website states. The event will also offer post-abortive support services and information on pro-life advocacy.
Massachusetts Citizens for Life said it believes the display “will move visitors to action, inspire change in the hearts of those who can no longer look away and, ultimately, result in justice for our most vulnerable women and children.”
Modeled after similar events produced by National Right to Life affiliates, the organization said “Truth About Choice” events in other states consistently draw more engagement and mobilization than other efforts.
At a similar event hosted by a Kansas affiliate, a staff member said she witnessed “hearts change,” with many attendees leaving more pro-life than when they arrived, according to the website.
Additional “Truth About Choice” events are scheduled for May 2 and later in October at other locations in the state, as part of a broader effort to raise awareness about the reality of abortion. A March 18 report from Massachusetts Citizens for Life said abortions increased 103% from 2023 to 2024 because of a surge in telehealth and chemical abortions.
Myrna Maloney Flynn, president of Massachusetts Citizens for Life, said in an email that abortions involving out-of-state residents outnumbered those within the state, an unprecedented statistic she attributed to state leadership and “abortion tourism.”
The March 18 report said that 30,902 of the nearly 50,000 abortions in 2024 were authorized via telehealth, driven almost entirely by remote distribution of abortion pills.
The pro-life organization noted that the “Truth About Choice” event is geared for ages 10 and up, adding: “We ask that attendees view our displays with reverence and maintain a solemn and respectful tone throughout their visit.”
