New York archbishop recovering after successful eye surgery
Following a successful procedure, Archbishop Hicks expressed gratitude for the prayers and support of the faithful.

Archbishop Ronald Hicks of New York is recovering after undergoing surgery to address the detachment of the retina of his left eye, according to a July 13 press release from the Archdiocese of New York.
Archbishop Hicks said he was diagnosed with the condition shortly after returning July 1 from the pallium pilgrimage to Rome.
“I am grateful to share that the initial surgery was successful,” he wrote, “and I am now in a period of recovery over the next several weeks.”
Archbishop Hicks was among four U.S. metropolitan archbishops who received the sacred pallium from Pope Leo XIV during the June 29 Mass for the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, as Zeale News previously reported.
The archbishop asked the faithful to keep him in their prayers during his recovery instead of calling or sending cards.
“Your prayers mean the world to me,” Archbishop Hicks wrote, “and please know that I am praying for each of you as well.”
Archbishop Hicks said he would do his best to keep the faithful updated on his recovery in the coming weeks.
He concluded his message with a prayer for healing.
“May our Lord,” he wrote, “who brings light to the darkness and grants us the sight to walk in His ways, guide us all in faith and healing.”
