CV NEWS FEED // Pope Francis was put on non-invasive mechanical ventilation Feb. 28 after suffering an isolated bronchospasm, Vatican News reports.
The bronchospasm “led to an episode of vomiting with aspiration and a sudden worsening of his respiratory condition,” the Holy See Press Office reported Friday evening, local time.
Pope Francis responded well to mechanical ventilation and remained alert and cooperative with the treatments, according to the press office, which added that his prognosis “remains reserved.”
The Pope had spent the day alternately praying in the hospital chapel and in respiratory physiotherapy. He also received the Eucharist today.
CatholicVote reported this morning that the Pope’s health was improving, per Vatican News reports. He had a peaceful 15th night in Gemelli Hospital, where he continues to be treated for bilateral pneumonia.
As CatholicVote previously reported, the Pope was admitted to the hospital Feb. 14 to be treated for bronchitis.
