Records reveal Planned Parenthood’s post-‘Dobbs’ plan against pro-life groups

Abortion giant Planned Parenthood urged state attorneys general to target pro-life pregnancy help centers and expand state support for abortion in a 14-point post-Dobbs plan, according to newly obtained records published by The Daily Signal on Aug. 23. 

The July 2022 plan called on attorneys general to issue public warnings about pregnancy help centers and ask federal regulators to target “misinformation” from the centers about deadly abortion-inducing drugs, The Daily Signal reported after obtaining the records from Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul’s office.

Among its recommendations, the memo told attorneys general to “provide information to the public about [crisis pregnancy centers] and take steps to curb their misleading and deceptive practices,” according to the outlet. 

Planned Parenthood also called on attorneys general to issue legal guidance supporting abortion, strengthen enforcement around abortion facilities, and coordinate representation for abortion-seeking women, abortion providers, and abortion-funding organizations.Several Democratic attorneys general later took actions resembling those recommendations, according to The Daily Signal.

Keith Ellison, Minnesota attorney general, issued a consumer alert about pregnancy help centers in August 2022. New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin issued a similar warning that December.

Platkin’s office later subpoenaed First Choice Women’s Resource Centers, a Christian pregnancy help center, seeking records identifying many of its donors despite receiving no complaints about the organization. The Supreme Court unanimously ruled in April that First Choice could challenge the demand in federal court on First Amendment grounds, as Zeale News previously reported.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta also led 15 other attorneys general in an October 2023 open letter criticizing pregnancy help centers.

“We have watched,” Bonta said in the letter,” with increasing concern in recent years as anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers have proliferated in our states, outnumbering abortion clinics by a three-to-one ratio.” 

In April, the U.S. Justice Department released an 882-page report detailing how President Joe Biden’s administration coordinated with major abortion industry groups, including Planned Parenthood, to weaponize law enforcement against pro-lifers.

Planned Parenthood did not respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment.
