Saint of the day, October 7
Our Lady of the Rosary invites the faithful to contemplate the life of Christ and seek Mary’s intercession through one of the Church’s most beloved devotions.

October 7 - Our Lady of the Rosary
Devotion: The Holy Rosary
Marian title: Our Lady of the Rosary
The feast of Our Lady of the Rosary celebrates a prayer that draws the faithful into the life of Christ through the eyes of His Mother.
With each decade of the Rosary, Catholics meditate on the mysteries of Jesus’ life, death, and Resurrection. The familiar prayers provide a quiet rhythm for contemplation, helping turn the heart toward Christ with Mary.
The feast also carries a centuries-old connection to the Battle of Lepanto. As Christian forces prepared to confront the Ottoman fleet in 1571, Pope St. Pius V called the faithful to pray the Rosary and ask for Mary’s intercession. The Christian fleet prevailed Oct. 7, and the pope established a feast in thanksgiving for the victory.
Over time, the celebration became known as the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, and the Church continues to observe it each Oct. 7. The entire month of October is also traditionally dedicated to the Rosary.
The Rosary offers a simple way to bring the joys, sorrows, and needs of our lives before the Lord. Whether prayed alone, with family, or in a parish community, its mysteries continually bring us back to Jesus and invite us to know Him more deeply.
On the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, we can turn again to this familiar prayer, asking Mary to accompany us as we contemplate the life of her Son and place our trust more fully in Him.
Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us!
