The number of Christian colleges that publicly expressed support for abortion rose from 2024 to 2025, with more than one in seven Christian colleges promoting or platforming abortion, according to a new report from Students for Life of America’s Institute for Pro-Life Advancement.
The report examined 725 Christian colleges’ websites, identifying any positive support for abortion. Common instances include listing Planned Parenthood locations as health resources or providing information about internships at abortion providers. Each instance of support for abortion was marked as an infraction.
“The schools promote themselves on public websites, and they are being judged by their own words. Donors, alumni, and potential students deserve to know what schools are doing in support of abortion and abortion vendors,” Kristi Hamrick, vice president of media and policy for Students for Life of America, said, according to FOX News.
Each school was graded from A+ to F based on the number of infractions. A schools had no infractions, while A+ schools not only had no positive references to abortion but also actively promoted pro-life resources such as pregnancy centers. Schools with four or more infractions were given the grade of F.
Forty-seven colleges received Fs, and nine of them are Catholic institutions: Boston College, Loyola Marymount University, Sacred Heart University, Santa Clara University, Seattle University, St. Catherine University, University of Detroit Mercy, University of San Diego, and Villanova University.
The report’s website provides links for pro-lifers to contact schools identified by the report and express concern over the promotion of abortion.
Among the F-graded colleges was Villanova University, Pope Leo XIV’s alma mater.
Pope Leo has consistently spoken out against abortion, doing so as recently as a Jan. 9 address to diplomats, as CatholicVote previously reported.
Speaking to FOX News, SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins stressed that Christians can’t be pro-abortion.
“If you are a Christian, you profess to serve a God who spoke the universe into existence,” she said. “He sent His only son to die a painful, excruciating death, to rise again in three days so we can live in heaven for all eternity. He did that because we, as His creation, are infinitely invaluable.”
Despite the many instances of B-F colleges promoting abortion detailed in the report, 66 colleges earned A+ grades, and eight schools removed all official ties to abortion after being contacted about their grades in last year’s report.
Hawkins told FOX News that part of the purpose of the report is to encourage schools to cut ties with abortion.
“If you are willing to get rid of all of your ties to the abortion industry, promote the pregnancy centers — non-violent healthcare centers — we are more than happy to share this as a win, and get the word out.”
