President Donald Trump’s approval ratings are higher in his second term than they were in his first, and new supporters who voted for him in 2024 but not in previous elections are driving the increase in approval, RealClearPolling found.
Citing recent Gallup polls, RealClearPolling reported that Trump’s approval rating of the first three months of his current term is at 45%, compared with 42% from the same time period of his first term.
While approval seems to have dropped in demographics that typically support Trump, like adults age 65 or older or white voters, voting blocs that mobilized for him last year still report high levels of satisfaction with his second term. Thirty-seven percent of younger demographics (divided into age groups from 18-29 and 30-49) approve of Trump, compared with the 31% of the same demographics who said the same thing in 2017.
“Approval among people of color increased by 12%, and approval among Hispanic adults increased by 15%. His approval also increased with Republicans, from 87% to 92%, further proving his consolidation of support among the Republican Party, of which more were skeptical during his first term,” RealClearPolling reported.
An Economist poll found similar results, with overall net approval ratings and net approval among Hispanics, the 18-29 demographic, and lowest income bracket among voters who made less than $50,000 per year. People whose income was at least $50,000 were more likely to disapprove of Trump.
“He maintains these voters [supporters] on his most popular issue, immigration, where 51% approve and 44% disapprove, according to The Economist poll. Even Hispanics approved of Trump’s handling of immigration, as well as all age brackets measured in the poll,” RealClearPolling noted.
The outlet added that Trump could lose support over the economy, inflation, and jobs, pointing out that those areas have net disapproval ratings. Though inflation has fallen by a few percentage points, promises of increased tariffs remain worrisome for many.
