Vatican to publish Pope Francis’ private diary
The forthcoming book pairs Pope Francis’ diary entries with commentary from one of the late pontiff’s closest collaborators.

Pope Francis’ private diary will be published Nov. 24 in a new book offering readers a glimpse into the late pontiff’s inner life.
The Private Diary of Pope Francis will feature entries written between Dec. 20, 1992, and Aug. 18, 2024, according to Vatican News. Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, presents the writings with commentary on them.
Andrea Tornielli, editorial director of the Dicastery for Communication, welcomed the publication.
“Through this book, which we believe readers around the world will appreciate, we will be able to gain an even deeper understanding of the Argentine Pope’s inner life,” he said.
The publication comes more than a year after Pope Francis’ death on April 21, 2025, following a 12-year pontificate.
The diary will join Pope Francis’ previously published works, including his final encyclical, Dilexit Nos. Published in 2024, the encyclical reflected on the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and urged people to rediscover the heart’s importance amid the distractions of modern life.
The book will be released simultaneously in five languages across 94 countries. Ahead of its November publication, the Vatican Publishing House will present it at the Frankfurt Book Fair Oct. 7–11.
