Sacred Heart Catholic School in Shawano, Wisconsin, this week unveiled its new playground dedicated to Saint Carlo Acutis.
According to FOX 11 News, Saint Carlo Acutis Playground is the first place in the Diocese of Green Bay and one of the first in the world to bear the new saint’s name.
The school community gathered for a Sept. 15 ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Father Edward Looney, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
“This playground really is a sign of hope and joy in our parish community and our school community,” Fr. Looney said, according to FOX. “A place for each one of our children to grow, to play and to especially be here under the patronage of Saint Carlo Acutis."

The project began three years ago, when staff and volunteers began planning and fundraising for the playground. It ultimately cost around $100,000, FOX reported.
Construction was completed Sept. 8 and fresh wood chips were added the next day, according to TCHDailyNews.
St. Carlo, who was canonized Sept. 7, died at the age of 15. During his homily at the canonization Mass for St. Carlo and Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati, Pope Leo told those assembled that the lives of these two young saints are “an invitation to all of us, especially young people, not to squander our lives, but to direct them upwards and make them masterpieces.”
School administrators said that the event was both joyful and historic.
“I am beyond excited to see this amazing and beautiful playground on our campus be ready for fun for all students, preschool all the way through eighth grade,” said Autumne Gee, director of admissions and development, according to FOX. “Today isn't just about swings and slides. It's about dreams taking flight, laughter echoing throughout our campus and a space where imagination and fun will thrive for generations to come.”
Administrators said a plaque bearing the playground’s name will be installed soon.
