SUPREME COURT REINSTATES GOP-DRAWN TEXAS MAP
The Supreme Court handed down a victory for the GOP yesterday, reinstating the Republican-drawn Texas congressional map. The district lines could give Republicans up to five additional House seats in the 2026 midterms.
IRAN REPORTEDLY OFFERS DEAL TO END WAR
Iran has reportedly proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for ending the U.S. naval blockade and the war, deferring contentious nuclear negotiations. President Donald Trump is unlikely to accept the deal, as he has repeatedly emphasized nuclear restrictions as his top priority in recent weeks.
ALLEGED WOULD-BE ASSASSIN CHARGED
Thirty-one-year-old Cole Allen has been charged with attempting to assassinate President Trump, transporting a firearm across state lines, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. The California man accused of opening fire at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner could face up to a life sentence for the attempted assassination charge. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 11.
BRITISH ROYALS ARRIVE IN THE US
King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived in the U.S. yesterday to begin their four-day state visit with planned stops in Washington, D.C., New York, and Virginia. First, they’ll attend a private tea hosted by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. The visit marks King Charles’ first trip to the U.S. since he ascended the throne in 2022.

Two days before a gunman reportedly targeted Trump at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel called First Lady Melania Trump "an expectant widow" during a mock alternative version of the event on ABC. The White House, the First Lady, and the President himself all called on ABC to take action against the comedian.

WILL LOUISIANNA DEFUND FAITH-BASED PREGNANCY CENTERS?
Two bills advancing in the Louisiana state legislature would require pregnancy centers to obtain medical facility licenses. The measures would also cut state funding from centers that incorporate faith-based content.
