HEALEY'S OFFICE CITES GOV'S 'PROUD CATHOLIC' IDENTITY TO DEFEND ABORTION SUPPORT

In a statement defending her decision to sign radically pro-abortion legislation into law, a spokesperson for Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey called Healey “a proud Catholic” as context for her support of the bill, amid mounting criticism from Catholics who say her support for the law could carry canonical consequences. CatholicVote CEO Kelsey Reinhardt warned that the statement "is tripling down on a position explicitly condemned by the Catholic faith.”

NIGERIAN COURT SAYS POLICE CANNOT ARREST WOMAN FOR CONVERTING FROM ISLAM

A federal high court in northern Nigeria has barred Kano State’s Islamic religious police from arresting a Christian woman over her conversion from Islam or her refusal to enter a forced marriage. “It is not against the law for me to choose my faith in Jesus," the woman said. "I am thankful the court has recognized my freedom to become a Christian and that I am now protected from the religious police.”

VATICAN VETOES BUFFALO DIOCESE PARISH MERGER

The Vatican has overturned two restructuring decrees from the Diocese of Buffalo, New York, granting relief to two Catholic communities that had appealed their cases to Rome. The rulings follow sustained efforts by local Catholics to preserve the life and ministry of their parish communities, following a plan announced in 2024 that would merge nearly one-third of the diocese's parishes.

ANALYSIS: CUETA MIGRANT SURGE AND CHURCH RESPONSIBILITY

After 60,000 migrants crossed from Morocco into Ceuta in July, Catholic writer Francis Maier penned an article arguing that the Church should balance its support for migrants with concern for the safety and future of local Catholics to ensure the Church’s continued presence in Europe.
