In a bid to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, more than 475 national leaders will gather at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., for a weeklong public reading of the entire Bible in April.
The initiative, dubbed “America Reads the Bible,” will take place April 18-25, with an opening celebration scheduled for April 18. Daily readings will run from April 19-25 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET, as participants read Scripture from the Book of Genesis to the Book of Revelation. The event aims to encourage renewed engagement with Scripture in American public life, according to its website.
According to a press release distributed by Christian Newswire, Christians Engaged and Family Policy Alliance Foundation are hosting the marathon. The readings will also be livestreamed nationwide.
The event is expected to feature several high-profile participants from across the country, including a number of Catholics: actress Patricia Heaton, author and speaker Allan Wright, and CatholicVote President and CEO Kelsey Reinhardt, who will participate virtually.
The Museum of the Bible also recently presented the Pillar Award for Narrative to the first Catholics to receive the honor: Jeff Cavins, a biblical scholar, speaker, and author, and Father Mike Schmitz, the host of “The Bible in a Year” podcast. As Zeale News previously reported, the award recognizes those whose cultural works of media bring biblical stories to life.
