Saint of the day, October 2
The Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels celebrates God’s loving care for us through the heavenly companions He sends to protect and guide us.

October 2 — The Holy Guardian Angels
Feast day: October 2
Vocation: Heavenly messengers and guardians
Patronage: Protection and guidance
The Church celebrates the Holy Guardian Angels Oct. 2, giving thanks for the unseen companions God entrusts with watching over His people and helping lead them toward eternal life.
Jesus points to this heavenly care in the Gospel of Matthew: “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.”
The Catechism of the Catholic Church also teaches that our lives are surrounded by the care and intercession of angels, quoting St. Basil: “Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.”
Our guardian angels ultimately point us toward God. Their presence is a quiet sign of His providence, accompanying us through the ordinary joys, struggles, and temptations of life as we seek to remain close to Him.
Guardian angels can also help us resist temptation, discern what is good, and remain attentive to God’s will. We can turn to them throughout the day in prayer, asking for their guidance and protection as we seek to follow the Lord more faithfully.
The feast gives us an opportunity to thank God for this gift and to turn more intentionally to our guardian angels in prayer, trusting in their protection and asking for their help as we journey toward heaven.
Holy Guardian Angels, pray for us!
