Seven people were arrested following an Oct. 24 break-in at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis, Minnesota, according to police.

A security monitoring company reported the break-in to police, who arrived shortly before 1 a.m., FOX 9 reported. Officers arrested three adults and four juveniles on suspicion of offenses, including burglary, trespassing, and fleeing police on foot.

All seven were later released. Jail records listed “No probable cause found” as the reason for the adults’ release, Alpha News reported Oct. 26. Police said the juveniles were released after being processed by the department’s juvenile unit, which is leading the investigation.

Police clarified Oct. 27 that the investigation remains open despite the releases, according to CBS Minnesota.

The basilica reported damage following the break-in, CBS Minnesota noted, but the outlet did not specify what was damaged.

Father Ralph Talbot, the basilica’s pastor and rector, thanked those who responded in a statement to FOX 9.

“We will cooperate in the prosecution of these individuals,” he said. “I am grateful to those involved in resolving the situation and to members of the community who have expressed their concern about this incident.”

The basilica is undergoing extensive renovations, including work on its exterior, stained-glass windows and interior ceiling, walls, and floors, according to FOX 9. The project also includes safety and security improvements. Interior work is expected to be completed by March 2027.
