Vatican releases Pope Leo XIV’s August liturgical schedule across Italy
The Holy Father’s four August engagements will include celebrations centered on youth and Marian devotion, as well as a gathering of people from different faiths and cultures.
The Holy See Press Office on July 30 released Pope Leo XIV’s August liturgical schedule, which includes a celebration with youth in Assisi as well as Masses and pastoral visits across central Italy.
Pope Leo will visit Assisi on Aug. 6, the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, as the city marks the 800th anniversary of St. Francis’ death. According to Vatican News, his visit will coincide with the “Go! Franciscan Youth Meeting 2026,” which will bring believers and nonbelievers ages 18 to 33 from across Europe together for several days of prayer, workshops, and music.
The outlet reported that the Pope will meet with the young adults in the square outside the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, where he is expected to answer three questions from those gathered. The Holy Father will also greet Franciscan leaders and members of the national committee overseeing the anniversary commemorations before celebrating Mass in the basilica.
Beyond Assisi, the Pontiff will mark the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Aug. 15 with Mass at the Pontifical Parish of St. Thomas of Villanova in Castel Gandolfo.
His schedule will then take him to Rimini for a pastoral visit Aug. 22, when he will celebrate Mass at the city’s port and take part in the 47th Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples. The annual cultural festival draws people of different faiths and backgrounds together through a shared search for truth, goodness, and beauty.
Pope Leo will return to Castel Gandolfo Aug. 29 for Mass and a procession at the Church of Our Lady of the Lake, concluding his scheduled liturgical celebrations for the month.
