Forget dusty old portraits and boring stories. Today, we are traveling far back in time, to the freezing, snow-covered landscapes of 14th century Sweden.

Imagine a young girl born into massive wealth and power, the daughter of a powerful provincial governor. She experiences something that will alter the course of her life and European history. She sees heaven open. She receives powerful, vivid messages straight from God. Today, we are diving into the absolutely fascinating and dramatic life Of St. Bridget of Sweden.

Let's start at the beginning. Born in the year 1303, Bridget was a Swedish noblewoman, but she definitely wasn't your average kid. From the time she was very young, she had a profound, intense devotion to the passion of Christ. At the age of 14, Bridget married a God-fearing man named Ulf. Together, they had a huge family, eight kids, and she was such an amazing spirit. role model as a mother that one of her kids grew up to become a saint too, Saint Catherine of Sweden.

Now, you might think that being a mom to eight kids was enough work, but Bridget was basically a 14th century superwoman. Well, she also worked right in the middle of the Swedish court, serving as the queen's personal maid. She was surrounded by the highest ranks of society, yet she was known for something else, her extreme acts of charity.

She used her high position to help others. Constantly juggling her royal duties with raising a family and serving those in need. But here is where Bridget's story gets completely mind-blowing. Bridget didn't just pray. She heard back. She is perhaps most well-known throughout history for the intense, supernatural visions and messages she received directly from God. Imagine having the heavy responsibility of carrying messages from heaven. God trusted her with these revelations, and she didn't keep She marched right up to the most important people in the Catholic Church and shared these messages so they could carry out God's will.

Talk about bravery! One of her most famous visions resulted in a powerful series of 15 prayers that meditate on Christ's passion. In another incredible vision, the Virgin Mary herself gave Bridget seven special promises for Christians who dedicate themselves to the seven sorrows of Mary. Because she wrote all these amazing things down, she is often pictured in classic art holding a book or a heart with a cross.

Eventually, Bridget's beloved husband, Ulf, passed away. She could have easily retired in comfort, but instead, she gave up all her riches and completely embraced a life of strict poverty. Then, in 1346, she took things a step further and founded an entirely new religious community called the Order of the Most Holy Savior. The members of this group dedicated themselves to a hardcore life of deep prayer and asceticism, meaning they lived very simply and gave up worldly comforts. Today, this amazing order is still around.

And is known as the Brigittines. Bridget passed away on July 23, 1373. But her story didn't end there. Her incredible revelations from Christ were published after her death, and people still read them today. Recognizing her massive impact on the world, Pope Boniface IX officially canonized her as a saint in 1391.

She is the patron saint of all of Europe, her home country of Sweden, widows, and And of a holy death. Think about Bridget's life before she started her religious order. She was a busy mom and worked a demanding job at the royal court, but she always made time for acts of charity. She didn't wait until she was living in poverty to help others. She did it while she was working and going about her busy daily duties. Look around your own royal court and find one person who is struggling or lonely and perform an act of charity for them.
