Welcome, young history buffs and curious minds, to My Daily Saint, the podcast that digs deep into the incredible lives of the saints, those remarkable people who shaped history and continue to inspire us today. Forget dusty old portraits and boring stories. Today, imagine a universe of intense spiritual conflict. A world where heavily armed heavenly forces clash against the powers of evil. Where top-secret divine messages are delivered to change the course of human history. And where mysterious guides walk in disguise among us to heal the sick and lead the lost.
Today, we aren't just talking about one saint, we are talking about three. And here's the twist, they don't even have human bodies. They are pure spirits. They are the ultimate celestial guardians. Today, on September 29th, we celebrate the Feast of the Archangels, Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael.
Let's kick things off with the ultimate warrior, Saint Michael. Picture a towering celestial figure clad in heavy battle armor, wielding a blazing sword and holding the scales of justice. Michael is the defender of God's people. If you read the book of Revelation in the Bible, it's Michael who is right on the front lines, leading the heavenly forces and charging directly into battle against ultimate evil. He represents the intense reality of spiritual conflict that we all face.
Next up, we have the ultimate royal herald, Saint Gabriel. His attributes or symbols are the lily, representing purity, and a scroll. His most famous history-altering moment, the Annunciation. Gabriel appeared to a young woman named Mary, announcing that she would bear the Son of God. Talk about a pressure-filled assignment.
His role highlights the incredible importance of God's revelation and our human obedience to it. Finally, we have the mysterious Saint Raphael. His symbols might seem a bit unusual at first. A walking staff and a fish. Why a fish? Well, you have to read the book of Tobit. In that epic biblical story, Raphael goes undercover. He acts as a guide and a healer, accompanying a young man, Tobit's son, on a massive, dangerous journey. Along the way, He actually helps the young man use a giant fish to create medicine that ultimately restores sight to his blind father.
Raphael is the patron of guides and healers, serving as the ultimate representation of divine providence. He shows us how God works quietly through ordinary, everyday events. This combined feast of these three archangels reminds the church, and every single one of us, that the spiritual world isn't just some abstract, imaginary concept or a fairy tale. It is real, it is deeply active, it is ordered, and it is completely oriented toward the fulfillment of God's epic plan. Here's your challenge for the week.
First, be like Michael. You face spiritual conflicts and tough choices every single day. Stand up for the kid being bullied in the cafeteria. Defend the truth. Choose fidelity and do the right thing, even when the rest of your friends are doing something wrong. Be a defender of God's people in your own school.
Second, be like Gabriel. Be a messenger of good news and truth. Listen carefully to the messages and revelation God gives you, whether that's through advice from your parents, lessons from your teachers, or reading scripture, and respond with a spirit of obedience, just like Mary did.
Third, be like Raphael. Be a secret guide and a healer to your friends and family. You can offer a listening ear to a friend having a terrible day, or help a younger sibling with their homework. Look for ways to let God's divine providence work through your ordinary, everyday actions. Thank you for joining us on My Daily Saint. We look forward to sharing another incredible story of faith and courage with you tomorrow.
