Amid a national influx of converts to Catholicism, The Catholic Association (TCA) is highlighting a compendium of books for recent converts, emphasizing the importance of prudence in the content they consume as they begin their faith journey.
Aimed at providing ongoing spiritual formation, the list offers what it describes as a means of “enriching one’s spiritual life,” according to the April 30 TCA article written by Ashley McGuire, a TCA senior fellow.
McGuire said the collection, compiled by TCA chaplain Monsignor Roger Landry, is intended to guide Catholics in deepening their understanding of the faith, including those who have practiced their faith for years.
The list includes eight books, such as Truth of Catholicism by George Weigel, Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma by Ludwig Ott, Catholicism by Bishop Robert Barron, and Time for God by Father Jacques Philippe.
McGuire said the recommendations come as priests across the country report what she described as sharp increases in converts, including significant growth in Order of Christian Initiation of Adults programs, pointing to the Church’s period of “mystagogy,” when new Catholics continue to grow in their understanding of the faith.
Additional titles include Catholicism and Fundamentalism: The Attack on ‘Romanism’ by ‘Bible Christians by Karl Keating; Radio Replies by Fathers Rumble and Carty, The Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Mind, Heart, and Soul: Intellectuals and the Path to Rome by R.J. Snell.
The Catholic Association is an organization committed to defending Catholic values in the public square.
