Pope Leo calls Catholics to proclaim the Gospel amid the noise of city life
The Holy Father’s August prayer intention urges urban communities to reach the lonely, welcome the unseen, and replace indifference with human connection.
Pope Leo XIV’s prayer intention for August calls on Catholics to share the Gospel through simple acts of love, urging the Church to reach those experiencing loneliness and isolation.
The intention, “for evangelization in the city,” is featured in August’s installment of the monthly “Pray with the Pope” video series produced by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network.
“You walk through our streets and squares, enter tall buildings and humble neighborhoods, and silently accompany millions who seek meaning amid noise and haste,” Pope Leo prayed.
The Pontiff said cities are called to be places of freedom and opportunity but can also become spaces of “anonymity and isolation.”
“That’s why today we ask You for a renewed gaze, able to discover in urban life fertile ground for proclaiming your Gospel,” he said.
Pope Leo called for a faith that goes beyond words and takes shape in the way Catholics encounter and care for others.
“Give us a creative and deep faith, that doesn’t remain in words, but becomes flesh through simple and loving gestures,” the Holy Father said.
Pope Leo also asked that the Church support those on the peripheries and “sow fraternity and connection instead of giving in to indifference.”
The August intention echoes Pope Leo’s July 19 Angelus, when he spoke of God’s kingdom quietly transforming the world through humble acts of love and service, as Zeale News previously reported.
The Pope concluded his August prayer by asking that urban Catholic communities become “open and welcoming homes” where hope is shared, no one feels invisible, and the Gospel is proclaimed through the lives of believers.”
