And we're live. Welcome back to the LOOPcast. It's Tom, Erika, and Josh. The LOOPcast is, of course, brought to you by The Loop. I actually have a link in the description today. Everyone should sign up. It's the easiest way to get your news. You get it all in three minutes.
We produce it here. It's a beloved product, of course. I have returned from the beautiful Green Bay, Wisconsin. I got to spend some time at a gorgeous Institute of Christ the King Cathedral. Wait a minute. You were just in Green Bay? Mm-hmm.
And did not the Green Bay Packers suffer? Josh, we don't need to talk about that. Actually, well, you know, they're licking their wounds after the vaunted Browns took care of business, but yes, Green Bay, surprisingly or unsurprisingly, everything in Green Bay is Packer-themed. I was trying to think of a comparison. I don't think it exists in America, where a city has one franchise, and that franchise runs that city.
The Packers are on Green Bay. I was shocked. Well, fundamentally, their identity, yeah. There's not much else there. No, except this gorgeous Institute of Christ the King Cathedral. Someone can fact check where that is. It was awesome. It was beautiful. I loved being there. I'm really excited. The choir was stunning. So, that was really awesome. I'm back. Josh, you're back from D.C.
Erika, the Marco Rubio of this operation, kept doing her various jobs here. That is the highest compliment you could have paid me. I am so blessed by that. Thank you. Much encouraged. Yeah, but guess what? We have a fantastic show for you today. Man, I had the pleasure of going through the UN highlights. I have a bit of the drama of the narrative of what leading up to it, escalator gate, and then the speech itself. Unbelievable. So, we are going to get into that.
Does Tylenol cause autism? It has broken the internet. We are going to talk exactly about what the Trump administration and Bobby Kennedy has said about that. What Tylenol is saying. We're going to get into all of it. Don't worry. We're keeping our cool here. And then we have some updates on the award that is going to be presented to Dick Durbin. Some more bishops have gotten into the fight here, into the fray. We have it all for you. Don't worry. Before we get into that, though, the reason we can do the show...
Because of our generous sponsors, I'd like to introduce you to Ave Maria Mutual Funds. Now, more than ever, Catholics want to align their investments with their moral beliefs, and a great way to do that is by investing in the pro-life, pro-family mutual funds from Ave Maria. The professionals at Ave Maria have a morally responsible investment philosophy that's aligned with Catholic teaching. In their search for attractive investments, they apply moral screens to eliminate companies that engage in support for abortion, pornography, embryonic stem cell research.
Or that make corporate contributions to Planned Parenthood, an advisory board composed of prominent Catholics meet regularly to guide the fund's choice of moral criteria. Since its founding in 2001, Ave Maria has become the largest Catholic mutual fund family in the United States, and now manages over $3.8 billion in assets for Catholics and other investors who have pro-life, pro-family values.

You are looking like money today.
Well, thank you. I think the good folks at Ave Maria Mutual Funds have done a really good service to the church because there is a lot of us. We want to invest a little bit, and again, I would encourage everyone, even if you are only doing $10, $20 a month, that kind of stuff over time adds up. The stock market has its ups and downs, but if you invest in something over the course of 10 years, you know you are going to get a good return, and you can multiply your efforts there, get your money for you, but here is the thing.
Are you familiar with the eighth wonder of the world? Compound interest. Compound interest. Love it. Well, I just feel like, I mean, there's a lot of companies out there that are doing lots of crazy things, and it's really hard to be able to figure out what, you know, keep track of everything. You don't have to keep track.
What every company is doing and all the horrible things that many of these companies could be doing, supporting pornography or abortion or whatever. Ave Maria Mutual Funds, they sort through all that kind of stuff. They do the hard work for you. They do the homework, and you can just invest and kind of take it easy. So, I think it is a great service. It is kind of like we go on Twitter, so you all don't have to, and Ave Maria digs through all the garbage, so you don't have to.
It just makes sense. Absolutely. Also, before we get to today's episode, thank you to Charity Mobile, the OG sponsor. I love them so much, now more than ever. I mean, it doesn't get better. We're on the other side of the world. It doesn't get better than being live with the gang. So, if you want to join us, that's 11 a.m.
Eastern time on YouTube primarily, but we also stream everywhere, Rumble, et cetera. So, please join us. It'll be a lot of fun. But what I will say is, before we get into today's episode, we had some breaking news, and it's a developing story, so we don't have, we're not going to have all the information, but I'd just like to offer up some prayers for what we're seeing right now in Dallas at a field office, so I'll share the link here, and we can get into that.
I saw some requests from the prayers in the chat, and Erika, you actually brought this up as well. So, multiple people have been shot at a Dallas ice field office, according to a law enforcement source. The shooter is down. Sort of said, looking like self-inflicted gun wound at this point. And Josh, I think you properly brought up, just, I mean, it dovetails in with a lot of the conversations we've been having. Someone on Twitter went through the White House account.
Of all of the violence that's been perpetrated against ICE, July 4th, 11 criminals ambushed officers at an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas. July 4th, rioters viciously assaulted federal agents at an ICE facility, and then July 7th, men unleashed a barrage of gunfire at a border patrol facility in McAllen, Texas. So, this is just, it looks like the 4th, probably even more, and the rhetoric leading up to this kind of thing does not seem disconnected in my mind against the federal agency.
...responsible for enforcing immigration in our own country. So, I think, unfortunately, I'm seeing reports that some migrants that were detained have actually been injured or potentially killed in this, so I'd just like to offer up prayers immediately for the... Horrible situation all around, obviously, yeah. I mean, we don't know yet whether or not this is a left-winger or right-winger. It could just be somebody who's absolutely bananas and bonkers and truly evil. We don't know. We don't know. It's too early to speculate.
But, you know, it is an act of violence, and it does make us worry, because there's a lot of, you know, ice. Officials are doing very dangerous work right now. Anyway, before this kind of thing even started, because you're talking about people having to forcibly remove people from the country that are here illegally. A lot of them, what they focused on first were a lot of the violent thugs, murderers, rapists, and all that other kind of stuff. People who don't generally cooperate and go willingly when the ICE officers come.
And these ICE officers have been wearing masks, which is kind of funny that the... Funny, ironic that the left is so upset about this. Like, they should get the masks off. Well, Antifa, they always wear the masks, so apparently... Right, it's fine for them. But the whole point here is the concern is that ICE officers' identities would then be splashed all over the internet, they'd get doxxed, and they'd be targeted. In fact, it was just last night when California Governor Gavin Newsom went on and talked about this.
Pushing back. That's happening in the United States of America. Masked men jumping out of unmarked cars. People disappearing. No due process. No oversight. Zero accountability. Happening in the United States of America today. People ask, well, is authoritarianism? You're being hyperbolic. We're being hyperbolic. If you're a black and brown community, it's here in this country.
And so, I'm deeply proud that I had the privilege of signing the nation's first bill to address the issue of masking. Also, to require you have simple identification, to your point. I mean, if some guy jumped out of an unmarked car in a van with a mask on, tried to grab me, I mean, by definition, you're going to push back. And so, these are not just authoritarian tendencies. These are authoritarian actions by an authoritarian government. You saw what Stephen Miller said last week.
This should put chills up fine. Call the Democratic Party. An extremist organization, basically a terrorist organization, saying he's going after his enemies. You saw the tweet that Donald Trump sent out, True Social, basically telling Pam Bondi, I want these three people taken out. That's happening in the United States.
No, he said investigated, taken out makes it seem like, yeah, or they're going to be executed. So, you know, this was just last night where the governor of California was attacking the notion that these ICE agents would have their masks, and that they would have to proffer their identification to local authorities in California. Like, what? I'm sorry? Like, you know, it's so funny how Democrats find religion on federalism as soon as a Republican is elected president who actually enforces the law.
You know, now they believe in this rich, robust, federalist system. Almost. And free speech. Because it's like, there is no proper authority for federal agents. I mean, that law, it was such a baloney law, you know, forcing them to take their masks off and provide their IDs to the state of California. That law is not going to last 10 minutes. Well, what also didn't last 10 minutes was the Democrats saying, oh, maybe we should tone down the rhetoric a little after Charlie Kirk got assassinated by a crazy leftist trans boyfriend.
Friend of trans. Like, this kind of rhetoric coming from People like Gavin Newsom, who is supposed to be the centrist, he was trying to sell himself as coming towards the middle, having Charlie Kirk on the show, talking to Steve Bannon, and then he gets on. Gavin Newsom is not trans. Yeah, exactly. Then he comes out on Colbert, and just the mask comes off, to continue a metaphor, perhaps. Yeah, so prayers up. But I am excited to introduce you to the great drama known as...
The United Nations, okay? I actually went. I'm like, why did everyone show up? For what purpose? I always hear about the UN. They're kind of this amorphous global force that I don't fully understand, so I try to make it as concrete as possible. So, the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, themed, quote, Better Together, 80 Years and More for Peace, Development, and Human Rights, kicked off the high-level week on September 22nd with a ceremonial anniversary meeting, and then yesterday, September 23rd, the spotlight shifted to the open day of the general debate.
So, that's also what this is. I usually see people in front of microphones. There's a lot of translators. I generally never understood it, but it's a general debate. So, over 150 world leaders deliver speeches outlining national priorities and make global crises like conflicts, climate change, and inequality. The debate runs through September 27th and concludes on September 29th at the UN headquarters in New York. So, some context leading up to the event. Trump has very vocally not been a huge fan of the United Nations.
Not a fan. To put it mildly. To put it mildly. Well put, well put. His biggest crime is wasting real estate. So after taking office, he withdrew the U.S. from various United Nations agencies like the Human Rights Council and World Health Organization. He's rescinded about a billion dollars in funding that Congress has already appropriated, and he ordered a review of any future funds going to the United Nations, saying he wanted it to align. With the national interest of the United States, funding is still frozen as currently sits, and some people may hear that, and you're like, wow, that's crazy.
Why is he pulling back from this kind of goodwill organization? I'll get to some points later, but in an organization that's also funded and attended by China and many of our adversaries, he has a point, let's just say, to a lot of this.
So, the UN, because of this, is saying that they're facing a budget crunch. So, to save money, they've started plans to move offices from places like Geneva and New York City. ...to cheaper locations, like Nairobi, Kenya. So, they're also planning to... Good! Yeah, I'm not mad about this at all. No. So, they're planning to cut thousands of jobs and consolidate their smaller agencies. So, there's a lot of... Animus, leading up to the Trump appearance in the United Nations. Some, Caroline Levitt actually pointed out, were joking about maybe cutting an escalator.
This is according to the Times reporting before the event. To mark Trump's arrival, UN staff members have joked that they may turn off the escalators and elevators and simply tell him they ran out of money, so he has to walk up the stairs. So, this is already a thing going into the event, which is crazy.
And for anyone curious, too, about our contributions to the United States, to the United Nations, is $13 billion annually. That's assessed, so that's just taken from all member nations according to their ability to pay, but then also voluntary, in which we give a lot of money to national hunger efforts just out of our own goodwill. That represents 27% of the UN system's $50 billion total budget, and then for comparison, other donors, China, 12%, Japan, 8%, Germany, 6%.
We are in the driver's seat of funding. Yeah. No question on that, and we have been the top funder of the United Nations since 1945. Forever. Forever. Since it started. In the Biden administration, previous administration actually set record highs for funding. Trump is obviously turning the table on that in his second term. So, this is where I get into escalator gate, okay? So, this is already talked about. Here is a video of Trump and Melania going up the escalator to give this speech.
And I'm showing the video on YouTube, and they're about to get on, and then bang. Escalator stops as soon as Trump gets on. He's looking around. Melania just starts walking. Trump starts walking. When he arrived on his podium to give the speech, the escalator started again.
Oh my gosh. Yep. So many speculating. That this was unintentionally, okay? Of course it was intentional. Yeah, duh. And then, well, Josh, it gets better when he gets up to give the speech. Someone, there's a malfunction, quote-unquote, of the teleprompter for this speech. However, talk about a miscalculation of... This is the miscalculation of the century. You just allowed the greatest riffer of all time, free reign to say whatever he wants, to weep in and out, and he did. I don't mind making this speech without a teleprompter, because the teleprompter is not working.
I feel very happy to be up here with you, nevertheless. This is how he riffed. This was great. So, the speeches are supposed to be... More from the heart. I can only say that whoever is operating this teleprompter is in big trouble.
There you go. They're going to be like, oh my gosh, he's threatening the UN. No, so the speeches are written to last five minutes. Five minutes is the limit for the world leaders. No, he exceeded the 15-minute limit. Yes, correct. 15, so 15, he exceeded it.
By 40 minutes. He went for 55 minutes. He's like, you want to cut the teleprompter? That's okay, because I can talk. I've got to make sure I get all those words in. I'm not going to remember what order.
All my points will be answered. Here is the thing, though. Yeah, Josh, this intentional, unintentional? Absolutely intentional. I mean, you said The Guardian had reported on this before. Somebody made the point The Guardian isn't interviewing janitors at the United Nations, so they are obviously talking to some staffers or something like this that giggled and said, here is what we are planning on doing.
If this might have happened to George W. Bush, let us say in 2002 or something like that, I would have been like, oh, that is kind of weird. That is kind of dumb, but I do not know. There has been at least two very credible threats against Donald Trump's life, including a bullet that if he had turned like that at the last second, he would be dead, and so the idea of what better way? He just gets on the escalator. He turns it off.
Perfect opportunity to try to make an attempt on his life. So, I don't find this actually kind of like, oh, that kind of funny. No, I think people need to be fired, and the fact is Donald Trump can say, hey, wait a minute, we're ponying up 28% of the budget for you guys. 28% of the staffers are going to be our appointees. We're going to pick them, because we're sick of this kind of stuff. If we're paying it. We should have a little bit more authority to run the thing.
That is what I would do. Yeah, pretty bold move, attacking the biggest funder of the UN. I don't know what the strategic thought was there. It is liberalism today, writ large. It is petulant, childish, teenager. I am just, well, I will stop the escalator.
I'll show you. Right, it's like a sixth-grade student government campaign, honestly, is the way it's maxed. If it wasn't potentially lethal, that's what it would be like, right? And I think, too... Do you remember, Erika, remember when George W. Bush first came to the White House, and Al Gore's staffers, you know what they did?
Oh, they removed the W from every keyboard in the entire executive office of the president. Yeah, they're like, we showed them. Because, you know, George W. Bush, you know, like, that was their way of, like, getting back. And it's like, I mean, why is this?
Like, this is, I feel like I've witnessed model UNs in high school more serious than this. Absolutely. Oh, 100%. 100%. And the thing is that they're always crapping on Trump for being unserious, and he's just shooting off at the mouth, and blah, blah, blah. The unserious people, you got to look at what they do. That would be the left. That would be the progressive. That would be the UN itself and their staffers. That is unserious. Trump, though, is dead serious, and they're going to realize he's not giving this funding back without some massive concessions, because he is serious.
Yeah, he'll do like the Queens, the Bronx, the thing, you know, he'll joke around and he'll shoot off at the mouth, but in the end, he is dead serious about reforming the UN or just letting it do its thing. And again, I go back to the key insight from Selena Zito that she made 10 years ago when it came to Donald Trump. It's that his critics... Donald Trump's critics actually don't take him seriously, but they take him literally. Every last exact word, they forensically analyze and say, oh, he got that wrong, which is just a silly way of looking at him, and that's what the bureaucrats of the United Nations are doing.
They're taking him literally, but they don't take him seriously. But Trump supporters Actually take Trump seriously, but they don't take every last word literally. So, they get the general gist of what he's getting at, and if he fumbles on a word here or there, or he exaggerates here or there, we still get the main meaning here. And so, that divide remains to this day, and you saw it at the United Nations as well. Yeah, I mean, I could give you the gist of his message to the United Nations.
I just think the United Nations is kind of funny, too, because wasn't there that Chappelle skit? It was like, oh, he was black George Bush, and he said, oh, were you going to sanction me? You and one army, basically. I mean, that is the most accurate satirical summation of the United Nations, in my opinion. Like, what are you going to do? And then everyone from their small country, now it's like 180 whatever country gets up, and they get to bang their fists.
They get to say, yeah, yeah, yeah, rah, rah. And then nothing really changes. Like, I don't know if that's just a cynical understanding of... No, the Wall Street Journal made this point, the editorial page, this morning, and I think they actually, I was kind of surprised coming from them, but they were saying, what has the United Nations accomplished? And Trump started his speech like this, like, what is the purpose of the UN? Right? He did say that. Every global... In the last 25 years, the UN has failed to address it as a body at all.
It's all been the United States bailing out these countries. The majority of foreign aid comes from the United States, not from the UN. They're riven with scandal. If you look at the delivery of relief goods in Gaza, every delivery of relief goods anywhere in the Sudan, in Ukraine, they have been an abject failure. And Donald Trump just called them out as a body on that. Then he went into individual countries who are members of the UN, and he's like, your countries are going to heck.
Let me tell you how to pull out of it. And this was great. Yeah, go through some of the hits. Here's his thoughts on the UN facilitating immigration invasion into the United States. And their borders. In 2024, the U.N. budgeted $372 million in cash assistance to support an estimated 624,000 migrants journeying into the United States. Think of that. The U.N. is supporting people that are illegally coming into the United States, and then we have to get them out. The U.N. also provided food, shelter, transportation, and debit cards to illegal aliens.
Can you believe that? On the way to infiltrate our southern border, millions of people came through that southern border. Just a year ago, millions and millions of people were pouring in, 25 million altogether over the four years of the incompetent Biden administration. And now, we have it stopped, totally stopped. In fact, they're not even coming anymore because they know they can't get through.
But what took place is totally unacceptable. The U.N. is supposed to stop invasions, not create them, and not finance them. In the United States, we reject the idea that mass numbers of people from foreign lands can be permitted to travel halfway around the world, trample our borders, violate our sovereignty, cause unmitigated crime, and deplete our social safety net. We have reasserted that... America belongs to the American people, and I encourage all countries to take their own stand in defense of their citizens as well.
You have to do that because I see it. I'm not mentioning names. I see it, and I can call every single one of them out. You're destroying your countries. They're being destroyed. Yeah. Europe is in serious trouble. They've been invaded by a force of illegal aliens like nobody's ever seen before.
I mean, I love it. I can't love it enough. Okay, so here's the thing about the United Nations. What is the point of it? And I think of one of the greatest political satires of all time. The British television show, Yes, Prime Minister. And that is where the one guy, Humphrey, was telling the Prime Minister, like, why is it that, you know, England needs to join the European Economic Union, which eventually became the EU? And he is like, well, we have the same foreign policy we have had for the last 500 years.
England wants a disunited Europe. Like, no, that can't be true. Come on, how could you say that? Well, that's why we aligned with the Dutch against the, you know, the French, and that's why we aligned with the French against the, he goes through all this stuff against the Spanish and all this. It's like, come on, we're better than that now. He's like, what are you talking about? No, of course, we still, well, then why would we want to join the EEU?
Well, since we couldn't stop it from being formed, we need to join it in order to muck it all up. Yeah. And it's like, what? I mean, so like. What is the purpose? But see, the purpose for the United Nations to be in the, for the purpose for the United States to be in the UN is different. So, for Republican presidents like George W. Bush, the reason to be in the United Nations was to give you like a blanket of respectability when you wanted to do a foreign war.
You see, it is not just the United States going rogue on its own against Iraq or whatever. We have got the blessing of the United Nations. Well, then what is the reason for Democrats to join the, you know, to be supportive of the United Nations? Well, of course. It is not really a military power. It is an economic power. So, you use economic funds from the United Nations to browbeat small countries into adopting abortion. You know, and that was, I was at the UN conference on the child in the summer of 2001.
It was amazing to see Pope John Paul's delegates from the Holy See that were working together with all these Muslim countries, actually, and some Catholic countries that still had good political leaders, and they are all working together. To try to stop, you know, the United, because Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton had spent so many years to try to force an international right to an abortion, and then George W. Bush finally got in in 2001. His guys were like, you know, but thank goodness John Paul and those Muslim countries stood up against that.
But here is the thing. Donald Trump doesn't want to use our taxpayer dollars, right, to fund stuff overseas and to try to transform countries like Nicaragua into being pro-abortion. There's no rationale there. And Donald Trump isn't like George W. Bush when it comes to, you know, wanting to invade a bunch of other countries. Some people are worried a little bit about maybe a little bit more neocon references to Ukraine. We'll see. But in general... Yeah, that statement was surprising, but... Yeah.
But in general... Donald Trump is not like, I need the imprimatur of the UN. He's like, he could give a rip about the UN. So, he sees no purpose for it. And I was reminded, like, one summer I was in DC, and this guy was, you know, I'm 24 years old or whatever. This guy's going around with a little clipboard. This just embodies the perfect liberal. This is some kid who's studying his master's degree at Georgetown University. He's like, would you sign this petition?
I'm like, oh, what is this? What is the petition for? It's to encourage the United States to join the International Criminal Court. Surely, you want to sign this. I go, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I don't want to sign it. Actually, no. Well, why not? We got to get you it. Actually, I want the International Criminal Court abolished. Thank you very much. It was just like watching this guy melt down. You just couldn't imagine what?
Yeah. There is a refreshing realism to Trump, and there is another quote that he had on Europe and the West on climate change. Oh, this is my hobby horse. This is great. Congrats, Europe. You know, you brought down carbon emissions at great cost to your industrial base, to your citizenry, to your economy, and then carbon emissions are up like 40% because China… 51%, right. Yeah, because China and India now just do it. So, you didn't do anything. Right. And China and India, also a part of the UN, so it is kind of like… Well, the realism is just so refreshing to get someone out there to just be like, this is stupid, this is stupid, this is stupid.
We all know it's stupid. You can pretend the emperor has clothes. I'm a practical realist. I understand my position here. We fund over 25%, over a quarter of this is my money that could be going to Americans that could use the money. I mean, seriously, could you imagine if we just cut all of that and brought it back to actually productive things domestically? It's like, why do we all pretend like we need to be a part of this? Emperor has no clothes thing, when we're just going to make decisions in the best interest of America, imagine that, America first, and other countries should do the same, and this forum is ridiculous and ineffective, so find new forums, or find new diplomacy that everyone does anyway, all behind the scenes of the UN.
I was even surprised, a lot of outlets didn't even cover, or are not covering the United Nations. I think it's just kind of a tacit admission that this is all kind of ridiculous. It's not irrelevant. It aspires to be this place where all these countries come together and solve problems. To that extent, obviously, it doesn't do that at all. It doesn't solve problems. It's just that everyone gets up there, and the French president is talking about, we're going to recognize Palestine now.
So, it is absolutely ineffectual in that sense, but I just want to remind people, it still, unfortunately, does things. It's just, it doesn't solve international problems like, oh, we're going to not go to war because we debated this thing at the UN. No, no, no, no, no, no. Right. But it's still going to go around to other countries and try to broadbeat them into supporting the LGBT agenda. Who else is going to pay for comic books? Can I make you be specific there?
Can I make you be specific there? Because I'm aware of the United Nations. Pressuring people into, say, taking injections in Africa or having abortion access in their countries, but most people don't understand that. Yeah, they tie it to foreign aid. I mean, that's what they do. They get these countries to say, hey, do you want this foreign aid to help rebuild your country? But if you need to, you need to be sustainable. The way to be sustainable is to make sure that you sterilize some of your people, that you allow women to have reproductive access or whatever, so you kill your babies.
I mean, they're horrible. It's absolutely Absolutely reprehensible. This is the thing that's always bothered me about the Catholic left, okay? The Catholic left would love to say conservatives, pro-lifers don't care about anyone but themselves. They don't care about foreign policy. They don't care about poor Black people in Africa. It's like, well, wait a minute now. It's the Democrats who are supporting the United Nations, that are supporting international Planned Parenthood, that are tying funding to help these countries to barbaric contraception, abortion, all this other kind of stuff.
We're the ones. It's Catholics who are saying, this is abhorrent. We want Africans to have actual food and water, actual aid, and we want to help them understand rule of law and market economy and that kind of stuff. We don't want to give them like, oh, but the left, the Rockefeller, Bill Gates left.
They think we need less brown people, we need less black people, and they accuse us of being racist, and all they want is murdering of more children. Drives me crazy. But there's that 1995 Convention in Beijing on the child, and that is what Hillary Clinton was trying to do, to try to get this international right to an abortion, and they followed through on that six years later. They did not anticipate that a Republican would be president at the time, and thankfully he, but mostly I give credit to John Paul.
Put a kibosh on that, but yeah, that was the whole idea, as they were coming into the new century, to tie foreign aid to it. George W. Bush on PEPFAR did a lot of stuff to help stop the spread of AIDS in Africa, and what did the Biden administration do? They hijacked that, and they used that as a means of promoting abortion. I mean, something that had broad, bipartisan support, and they completely hijacked it for the abortion agenda. That is why.
Like, you know, the left likes to talk about civility. Why don't we have bipartisanship anymore? Because you do these kind of things, where there's broad bipartisan support. Like, you know what? Just a little bit of foreign aid could really do a lot of people good and save a lot of lives, and it was Republicans that led the effort on that, and they said, yes. Even, you know, that lefty Bono with U2, he's like, U2, he's like, yeah, that was actually really good.
He was commending George W. Bush for it, and it was commendable. But, you know, again, the Democrats... And then, we'll end this segment with how he ended it. I ended seven wars. I never even received a phone call from the UN offering to help. These are the two things I did get from the United Nations, a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter. Thank you very much. 55 minutes.
He should be eligible for a Nobel Peace Prize because of the efforts he's done on peace, both in his first term and this and the second term, but I kind of feel like... You know how we don't, in the Catholic Church, canonize somebody until they're dead? I almost kind of feel like we shouldn't give anyone a Nobel Peace Prize until they're dead. Honestly, I love Donald Trump's, what he's done on foreign policy right now, but what if he does do, you know, a character arc right here and dive into Ukraine, you know, and then get a whole, you know, and then jump starts a war and it spreads throughout Europe.
I'm like, I would be against that. Yes. And then I'd be like, well, that was kind of silly. Why do we give him a Peace Prize, and then 18 months later, he does that. Yeah, 100%. I mean, there are several things that you shouldn't do until someone's dead. One is canonize them, two is give them a Nobel Peace Prize, and then the third is don't name your child after them until they have finished the race, 100%.
Not looking at anyone on this panel, Mercer, but my favorite moment was when Trump says, well, I had the Abraham Accords, we had the big deal, and some people say I should have gotten the Nobel Peace Prize, and he said, but for me, the greatest prize of all are the millions of children who will get to grow to adulthood because of what I did, because of the seven wars I ended. And he said that he was like, I just, I want these kids to grow up.
It was a beautiful line. That reminds me. The thing that would be the most trumping, okay, so. Donald Trump, when he was first president, the first of November, I was really hoping that he wouldn't pardon the turkeys, and he would actually say, no, actually, let's kill them. I just thought it would have been so on brand for Trump, you know? Every time, every year, he pardons them, I'm like, come on, man. Like, maybe just his last year, he was like, no, I'm not going to pardon them.
Kill them. That'd be so on brand for him. Kill them, roast them, stuff them with grenades. But could you imagine if Donald Trump actually got this list, so little chance. The tell-all for the turkey is to be roasted. There's like this remote, tiny chance that he'd actually get the Nobel Peace Prize. But if he did, if he actually did get it, can you imagine if he said, I don't want it? If Nobel made his money in dynamite, doesn't sound like peace to me, and throws it back in their face, I mean, that would be so on message with this guy.
It would be epic. It would be totally epic, because that's what happened to Nobel. He made his money in dynamite. Hey, I think we know some people in the White House. We need to follow this one. Yeah, we can move on that. We've got to keep moving on. I've got bangers every day for him. Let's go. Okay. All right, Erika. All right, our next sponsor, Home, title, Lock. Did you know that American homeowners have over $32 trillion in equity and criminals are Of course, targeting it with a growing scam the FBI calls house stealing.

Yeah, broken. Where do we even begin? Understatement is the theme of the day for Pogo. Tylenol and autism, okay? I mean, I saw TikToks of pregnant women popping Tylenol in protest. I found old tweets from Tylenol back in 2017. I have seen some crazy accusations. I got nurses texting group chats of like, you know, you can take Tylenol, it is okay. This is how I know it is broken in the mainstream, and basically what I wanted to do. What was actually said?
What was referenced by the Trump administration, and address some common misconceptions, conceptions about autism, and how he diagnosed it, and everything like that. So, I went and did the research, as a service to myself, honestly, because I'm like, this is so hysterical, I need something, but then to present it to you guys as well. So, back on September 22nd, that would be Monday, the Trump administration issued a White House statement titled, Fact. Evidence suggests link between endocinometaphen and autism. Framing prenatal exposure to acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, as a potential contributor to rising autism spectrum disorder rates, known as ASD.
The announcement highlights mounting evidence, as they said, from multiple studies linking Tylenol use, particularly in the late stages of pregnancy, to increased risks of ASD and ADHD in children. Okay, so the way it was being talked about was... These guys just got in, they threw a bomb out there based on nothing, okay? That was basically the assertion from people trying to smear this. I went and found it. They are referencing four studies. The second Nurses' Health Study in 2019, the Boston Birth Cohort Study, Swedish Cohort, and then the 2021 International Consensus.
We even got a statement from Harvard. This was actually a study done. By, well, Derek Everett. Derek? Oh, sorry. That's the guy who put out the tweet. This is a statement from Andrea Baccarelli. He's a PhD. He's the Dean of Faculty, Professor of Environmental Health at Harvard Chan School of Public Health. He's the one that was a part of the study, and the funding came from the NIH on this, so I'll share this tab.
I just think this is helpful. Colleagues and I recently conducted a rigorous review funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health of the potential risks of acetaminophen use during pregnancy. We reviewed 46 previously published human studies worldwide. We found evidence of an association between exposure to acetaminophen during pregnancy and increased incidence of neurodevelopmental disorders in children. The association is strongest when acetaminophen is taken for four weeks or longer. As we noted in our review, animal studies have independently suggested that prenatal exposure to acetaminophen can adversely affect the developing brain.
This biological evidence lends support to the possibility of a causal relationship between prenatal acetaminophen exposure and neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism. Further research is needed to confirm the association and determine causality, but based on existing evidence, I believe that caution about acetaminophen using prenatal acetaminophen can adversely affect the developing brain. Use during pregnancy, especially heavy or prolonged use, is warranted. That came right from this guy. But, like, again, if you hear this talked about online, you'd be like, they just pulled this out of their, you know, wherever and tossed it out there.
I mean, this is coming from the head of the study, the Dean of Science at Harvard. And then Caroline Leavitt came out with a statement, the Trump administration does not believe popping more pills is always the answer for better health. There's mounting evidence finding a connection between acetaminophen used during pregnancy and autism, and that's why the administration is courageously issuing this new health guidance.
Additionally, the Trump administration is approving new treatment option that has been found to improve some autism symptoms. President Trump pledged to address America's skyrocketing rates of autism, and his team is deploying gold standard science to deliver on this pledge. We will not be deterred in these efforts, and we know millions across America are grateful.
And I even saw from Tylenol, their Twitter account back in 2017, here's the post. We actually don't recommend using any of our products while pregnant. Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns today. This is on sometimes the best headache relief is getting outside. After all, brisk air is still fresh air. And the original post was deleted by the author. I assume they're talking about being pregnant.
All that being said, I mean, listen, I'm not a scientist, but... I was thinking a lot about this, and... Clearly, there were studies done before. What was conditioned was done by legitimate scientists. There was mounting evidence, as reported on by a lot of the publications smearing and attacking the Trump administration now on it. Tylenol themselves said this probably wasn't a great idea. Am I saying that, and is the Trump administration saying, you can never use Tylenol? No, I think the average person reading all of this would be like, that's not the takeaway based on this presentation.
Heavy Tylenol use during pregnancy probably isn't the greatest idea. I would say heavy use of any drug During pregnancy, probably not the greatest idea, and it's refreshing to actually hear a government, listen, a government to say, hey, say something, because I was thinking about this more. No. If there was any time there was any concern about anything, if you bring it forward as the body concerned with public health and say, hey, we're a little bit concerned about this, you know, this is just something for you to be aware of so that you can make good decisions.
They never did that before, because they're always going to harm someone, potentially. In this case, Tylenol. Their stock's probably not doing great. I lost it. I just think about what happened with the Sackler family, and Vicodin, and everything like that, where it was just so grossly presented to people, given to pharmacists, told to send out, and now half the country's addicted to it. There were so many times along the way where people knew about the bad effects of it, but didn't say anything, probably because they were afraid of a backlash like this from the company.
Like, my takeaway is, sure, I'm sure it's okay. I don't think it's helpful that liberal women on TikTok are now like, I'm going to pop it as a protest. Oh my gosh, that's stupid. Or mental health, and it's not helping, by the way. Right.
So, and then also, I'm seeing on the AAP account, it's... Well, before you get to that, real quick, I mean... You know, what this amounts to is, it is just a guidance. Like you say, there is no restriction in use, and acetaminophen, although most people know it as Tylenol, it is not just Tylenol that sells it. It is just a drug. It is a headache drug. It is an active ingredient in Tylenol. Yeah, it is like, don't take a ton of this.
You are right. What it amounts to is similar to like the... The advice we give to pregnant women to avoid eating deli meat, because deli meat could be contaminated with listeria, and that is a bacterium that can cause serious infections in pregnant women.
And they're unborn children, so it could lead to miscarriages, you know, stillbirths, infections in newborns, that kind of stuff. So, it's like one of those things where it's like, you know, does that mean Josh Mercer and everyone else can't eat deli meat? No!
But, like, they just say, hey, you know, just to let you know, like, it's just there, you know, we want to make sure. It would be better for our government agencies to let people know this as a possible concern.
And not. And not to let us know. I'd rather know, even if, well, this isn't maybe the worst thing in the world, or it's not like a major cause for concern, but we just thought we'd let you know, like, there is this possibility. Yeah. Thank you.
The problem being that Twitter and the mainstream media and Trump derangement syndrome, they don't traffic in nuance. And a lot of the guidance, my husband was in research, one university, neuroscience for 15, 20 years almost. And the problem is that When you want to return to gold standard science, as RFK has pledged to return the NIH to, there's going to be a lot of nuance, and there isn't going to be like, here's the answer to autism. This causes autism. That's just not going to happen.
That's not how a rigorous gold standard science will work. But that is what people heard him promise when he made this arbitrary deadline of, oh, I'm going to tell you the cause of… Autism in September. That's what they heard him promise, and that's what they're going to hold him accountable to in the headlines. And that, I think, is why the backlash is so heavy, because you come out, and yeah, if you read exactly what he said, I read the Harvard review, I read one of the initial studies, the Sweden one, and it's all very balanced.
There's nothing really controversial. There's not a lot of new information here. It's just, let's tell the American people in this press release. The problem is the temperature is so high that no one's actually going to hear the very reasonable guidance that, oh, if you are pregnant and you've been on acetaminophen for four weeks, there might be a real underlying issue there. Like, if you need to pop Tylenol every day for four weeks, there's something going on. Aside from what that could do to the baby, maybe we should think about root causes.
And I have no doubt that RFK is going to continue to pursue the root causes he pledged during this press conference, that he was going to continue to pursue root causes of autism, the autism epidemic, as he termed it, and that is good. I think the problem with the way it was rolled out with this press conference was...
We felt like promises made, promises not kept, even if it was actually what we should be getting from our NIH. Does that make sense? Yeah, no, I think that's a good point, because I think my takeaway from it was, I'm actually happy that a regulatory agency is saying something not, hey, you should just take more of this drug. Yeah.
Because I feel like that's all we've been told, and we were basically lied to up and down about the COVID vax. And, Eric, I mean, the other really challenging thing with a lot of this is you're the only one in this podcast that's been pregnant. Accurate. And I know that. Accurate reporting. Hey!
We were talking about this yesterday, so I have been getting prenatal advice for over 20 years now. Gosh, 21 years ago was my first pregnancy. Can you believe it? And no, I wasn't 12. It's a child, not a pregnant.
I knew Mercy was thinking it, so I was just going to get ahead of him. We're going to get ahead of that. So, and the number of changes. That went into what they recommend and don't recommend, and what to avoid, and what to definitely eat. I think around my third pregnancy, and I have rough, rough pregnancy. I don't eat for three months, basically. I can't take prenatal vitamins. They just don't stay down. So, I can't follow most of the advice, but at one point, I was lying bitterly on my sick bed with the third pregnancy, and I made a list of everything pregnant women were supposed to eat every day.
It was like 32 things. I'm like, this is ridiculous. I'm supposed to eat 32 things. So, it is... It is difficult as someone who has been pregnant and experienced these sort of recommendations for so long to take any of them seriously at a certain point, and you want to. You want to take some of them seriously. Like, yeah, don't eat like three gallons of blue cheese a day, guys. Don't eat lunch meat with heavy metals in it for every meal your entire pregnancy, you know.
But I think that a lot of the sort of hysterical... Here is the answer to all your problems. Here is how you can 100% protect your baby from anything bad ever. That kind of messaging from the medical industry, from Parenting Magazine, is just manifestly unhelpful as well, and it discredits when there is legitimate cause for concern with something you do or something you put in your body. And I would also say, I think there is legitimate cause for concern with the rise of autism that we've seen in the country.
It went from one in 2,500 in the 1980s to one in 36. What's going on with that? By 2020, and it's continuing to rise. And I mean, I looked into this because I always hear, the second thing you hear when you say that is, well, we're just better at detecting it now. And there is actually some of it, some of it for sure. So interesting, I was looking into it. The definition of autism has expanded, and it's included things like Asperger's.
So yes, then we expand it, more people will have ASD, as it's understood now. So that's one thing. The second thing is, there's more screening and awareness, but in order to get insurance, Help for that? You need to get screened and get it. So, there's actually an incentive in a lot of places to get this type of diagnosis, to get more from your insurance company, or to get more help. So, I thought that was kind of interesting, too.
And there's more money. Yeah, exactly. So, there's a money thing going on here. There's a definition thing going on here, but even with all of that. Most people would say that does not account for the meteoric rise that we have seen in all these types of things. It just does not. It is too high of a rate. Could there be environmental concerns? Yes, and there absolutely are environmental concerns.
It just speaks to the broader, like Erika, you said, all the recommendations have changed. I think you put all that aside. The... The rates, is it the mortality rates of our mothers here in America are really shocking. Oh, the maternal mortality rate is terrible. And that doesn't make any sense. Like, why in Europe do we have such a different maternal mortality rate? Why, you know, in other places, are autism rates so much lower? I think these are legitimate things to be concerned about, and you would hope that we'd be able to have this kind of good faith, scientific conversation about it.
I just think the wounds are too deep from what we just experienced in 2020. And then even before that, things with opiates and things like that. So, they have a really uphill battle, and I think in terms of public health guidance, typically, it is not going to be for you. It is not going to be for people that are very literate, people that take their health very seriously, that are eating a lot of things. It is for the most extreme cases of people that have no literacy, eat all processed food, have no regard for their health, drinking, smoking, all these other things.
So, I think as just a normal person, kind of... ingesting all this news, the hysterics are not helpful, and then the other people on the other side that wanted a silver bullet cure to autism are disappointed, and that's not helpful because that's not going to be the solution. It's like, just get back to basics here.
Eat. Don't eat a ton of processed foods. Don't drink alcohol. Don't smoke. Like, just all the basics are going to be okay. You'll weather the storm. Don't take a ton of drugs. All that's personal agency level. So, there's like a way to interact with this that I think is kind of helpful. Basically, listen to what your grandma said. Yep. My beautiful wife chipping in the chat, too. Unless she was a chain smoker. Who's now done two successful. Shout out to my wife, Beast.
Yeah. Shout out, Mrs. Pogo. She is actually, she is deep in all of this, so I get most of my advice from her. Yeah, you know it is important when all the moms at the homeschool playgroup are talking about it. Yes, exactly. That is why I was like, okay, this is broken out. I am hearing it in the homeschool group. It is broken out.
Well, it is just kind of funny, like during COVID, there was no skepticism or questioning allowed, and then RFK puts this stuff out, and the mainstream media is like, okay, well, this is what they said, but that is totally not true, and here is why. The headlines are crazy, actually. Wait a minute now. I thought these were our health authorities. Right. No, the headlines are actually nuts. They're like totally unproven claims that this is, and it wasn't even what they claimed.
So, I think you're right, Josh. Like, it's almost less about the science itself and more the reaction and the smears from other people. It's just like, it's not helpful, and it's making everything worse. All right. We got to run good news. I'm sorry, Josh. I get to go first. You know why? Because we just talked about autism, so let me tell you about Elon Musk. Oh, boy.
Maybe he is finding a little religion, maybe a little bit. That would be nice. This one social influencer posted something about Christianity, and he said, I am pretty confident everything started going dramatically downwards in America once Christianity started being replaced by secularism. That alone, this guy said, might be the strongest argument for Christianity. And Elon Musk replied to this guy, he said, You're probably right. Now, of course, part of it is just he's interacting on a platform that he owns, so I get that.
Engaging with a social media figure who gets a lot of traffic, so it is common sense. He did also tweet, you know, forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. He did that on Sunday while he was attending the funeral service for Charlie Kirk, and so, I don't know, I just wanted to share something that someone else responded to this, and I say this because it echoed my, well, my own journey in many ways. He says, I do not know how it is going to go for Elon, but for midwit atheists like me, now Christian, there are stages.
The first realization is that Christianity works. This leads to statements like, we need religion. When people say this, they mean other people need it, not them. The plebs need it. The second realization is that Christianity is true. It is metaphorically true, the way Jordan Peterson describes it. It will work for you personally. It is just not something that people in general necessarily need, but something you need. It is a system. It is a philosophy. Great.
The third realization is that Christianity is literally true. The resurrection happened as it was written in the Gospels. Such a miracle would be no obstacle for the creator of the universe, of course. The spiritual world is real. You have a heavenly father. He loves you. He sacrificed his son for you. So, this guy says, for me, that journey happened from reading Jordan Peterson, C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton, and finally the Gospels themselves, and my journey was very similar. I converted, came back to the Catholic faith before Jordan Peterson, but C.S.
Lewis, you know, definitely helped, Anselm, Augustine. So, you know that he's been saying this, though, by the way, not just in this tweet, but he's been at conferences saying, like, there's been a vacuum. After the Christian society is left, there's a vacuum, and it gets filled in by something much worse than it, and he calls it the woke mind virus, but he said this very publicly at a couple different shows. I just feel like now seeing that public display of faith at the memorial service for Charlie, you know, he's starting to see that, you know, maybe that needs to be filled back with.
Right, and I think, too, that we need, it would be a history changing, the trajectory of history would alter significantly if one of the leading tech bros from the transhumanist Silicon Valley were to actually embrace the gospel and repent and believe in Jesus Christ, because I think We know the other tech bros like Sam Alton, Peter Thiel, they're not even close, and I would really love for at least one of our Silicon Valley overlords to embrace the truth of humanity and what it means to be human.
Wait a minute now. We should pray for him. What? We did have a Silicon Valley entrepreneur embrace Christianity and convert it into Catholic faith. He's now our vice president. Um, Peter Thiel has given, I'd say, one too many lectures on the Antichrist, for my taste.
They are very entertaining. And the other one, did you see Sam Altman went on Tucker's show, and Tucker basically accused him of murdering his employee? Accused him of what? So, one of the... Open AI employees, officially, it was a suicide, but it's like the most suspect. There was a wig in there. There's blood everywhere. It was the most suspect thing ever. Everyone thinks he was taken out by someone, and Tucker had Sam Altman on, and I'm sure anytime Sam Altman goes anywhere, they're given a rap sheet of what not to say, right?
You cannot ask about this, and sure enough, Tucker's like, I don't know. It says this, but it doesn't feel like that to me. What do you think? It was like you can't even script something that funny. Or that good? And just the discomfort and the inner playback. It's like, are you accusing me? No, no, no, I'm not accusing you of that, but. What do you think? Some people are saying, basically. Some are saying that you were involved in this. It's like, oh my gosh, these tech bros, man.
Oh, I don't trust them. I don't trust them as far as I can throw them. Let's convert them all. Let's pray for them all. Let's pray for their conversion. Yeah, that would be nice. Okay, Erika, what do you got? All right, I just have a really quick one. This was an update yesterday on the little girl who was wounded in the Annunciation Catholic school shooting, Sophia Forchaz. She's been in the hospital since that terrible, terrible day. That took the lives of two of her fellow students.
And her family has released a statement that's thanking Jesus and saying, her healing progress is nothing short of miraculous, an undeniable testament to the mercy and intervention of our Lord Jesus Christ. And then what a beautiful picture of this little girl. So, to everyone who's been praying for her recovery and for that community, there's some good news. That's great news. Yeah. Thanks for bringing me up there. Okay. Mine. I knew it. I knew it all along, and now we have admission.
So, the Oversight Committee, Representative Jim Jordan, Google commits to offer all creators previously kicked off YouTube due to political speech violations a return to the platform, but that is not all. They admit that the Biden administration's censorship pressure was unacceptable and wrong, confirms that the Biden administration wanted Americans censored for speech that did not violate YouTube's policies, details when YouTube began rolling back its censorship policies on political speech after the Judicial Committee began its investigation, states that public debate should never come at the expense of relying on, quote, authorities, promises never to use third-party fact-checkers, and warns that Europe's censorship laws Target American companies and threaten American speech.
Thanks, like, three years too late, and when it's all of a sudden convenient, when the Jimmy Kimmel conversation comes up, that's just a total farce and has turned him into a martyr. I mean, good news that we now have on paper YouTube admitting that it censored conservatives because they did. Well, it mattered, though. We all knew it. Well, it mattered. Right. Because if Gavin Newsom is elected president, what are they going to do? They're going to fall in line again. Yeah.
Right? Yes, but isn't that my point? So, that's my foundational point. Eric is going to have a great deep episode about this, and I know you're on the same page with this. Everyone's like, oh my gosh, they're going to do the same thing to you. Like, why wield legitimate power because when the other side gets in power, they're going to do it. It matters that Trump, no, that's what I'm saying, Josh. It matters that Trump was elected, and it matters that he's here, and it matters that they're pressuring.
Do I think that Google is slippery enough to shift to the other action when a new administration gets in? Yes, but that's why this election actually mattered, and that when people were getting discouraged about, are we going to win or not? We'd be living in a completely different country if Kamala Harris was in office. None of this would have came out. Google would have never apologized. You would still have the weaponization against the pro-lifers in jail that were political prisoners. Elections matter.
And this is why we work so hard to get him in office. Yes, I have my frustrations, and I think the Charlie Kirk... And martyrdom, literally, was kind of a beautiful moment there for a little bit of, like, everyone realized and was unified on the right all of a sudden of, like, this is a larger project than our kind of internal squabbles. And yes, it's important that we disagree, but we do so respectfully. But we can work in coalition against the forces that are actually trying to keep you in jail, to demonize you, to use lawfare against you.
And I want to keep that energy, because we don't get this concession from Google if we don't win this election and if we don't press that power. You know, incidentally, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, FIRE, which bills itself as like the conservative version of the ACLU, we defend everyone's rights. We don't care about the politics. Free speech is great.
So, this guy on Twitter, he's freaking awesome. His name is Chris Hans. He's like, I checked FIRE's Twitter feed, as well as three of the people that work there, and in the most unexpected news you could ever hear, there was not a single word about the breaking news that Google's YouTube subsidiary admitted to censoring conservative accounts at the behest of the Biden administration. Not a word. Lots of hand-wringing about Jimmy Kimmel, but nothing about The Biden administration putting the screws on free speech through Google and YouTube.
Huh. So, they did. Libertarians. FIRE did, actually. Did they finally say something? The president did. Yeah, here we go. And it's such a- Here is their statement. No, I will actually share it, because I saw it this morning, because I read that tweet, too, and I was like, yeah, it is dumb, and the only reason they are saying something now is because of the backlash. Right. So, Google should not have waited to acknowledge it was pressured by the Biden administration to block content on its platforms.
Google condemns jawboning now, but it failed to stand up for the rights of its users when it mattered. FIRE will continue to call on private institutions to stand up for their rights, no matter who is in office. What does that read to you, Josh?
It reads to me like conservatives called them out yesterday, and because I was traveling late last night and this morning, I didn't see that, that they finally got browbeaten into responding, but libertarians like to think that they're the vanguards, the principal, you know, they don't muddy themselves, you know, oh, nah. In general, I consider them to be agents of the left. Yeah, this was totally analogous to the Cato Institute report last week that was based entirely on the ADL. And SPLC, and you're like, yeah, Cato and Fire.
It's experience. They're not setting their best. No. To be specific on that one, I know you guys addressed that ad nauseum. It's like, you can't play games with people that just can make up the rules whenever they want, and that's exactly what the ADL and what FIRE does. It's literally Calvin Ball. It's like, we're going to make things up, and we're going to go off statistics that we make up in our favor, and sure enough, to the respectable world, you're going to lose because we make sure you lose.
Check out The Deep tomorrow. It's going to be good. All about this. Yeah, it's very frustrating because... You know, what we mean by Calvin Ball, people are, you know, what does he mean by that? Literally, the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes, where he and his pet tiger are playing Calvin Ball, which there are no rules. You just literally make them up on the spot, and you just keep playing.
And it's hilarious when it's a comic strip, but in real life, it's absolute chaos. It's like when the Republicans get up to bat, suddenly, you only need two strikes, but then when Democrats, they get five or ten strikes. What? It's absolute psycho. It's completely unbalanced.
Orders from the Lord, Josh. Then we look like school moms because we're complaining about the rules. No, I don't. Nope. No, I'm trying to notch W's. Trying to go on offense. That's right. Okay, quick, man, yeah, we're running over today, but quick update to the, you guys have already talked about the award that was going to be awarded to Dick Durbin. There's been some updates on that, and I know I was out on Monday, so I'm not sure exactly how much you covered, but basically, Supish doubled down, and then we got another.
A response from Bishop Paprocki, who was like, well, he's in my diocese. In first things. So good. He's in my diocese, and why are we honoring him? He's rabid pro-abortion. Sorry, maybe I should just give the full response. I know we're a little bit late on time. That's all right. Okay, so just full context as this has been evolving. Last week, the Archdiocese of Chicago announced its plan to bestow a, quote, lifetime achievement award on pro-abortion U.S. Senator Dick Durbin at a November 3rd fundraiser hosted by the Office of Human Dignity and Solidarity.
I looked more into the event. The Office of Human Dignity and Solidarity is mostly focused on immigration. I think they do some, like, prison accompaniment and a couple other things, but their main focus is immigration. And so, then on September 19th, Bishop Araki issued his first public statement correcting Cardinal Cupich, noting that, quote, honoring a public figure who has actively worked to expand and entrench the right to end innocent human life in the womb undermines the very concept of human dignity and solidarity that this award purports to uphold.
The original immigrant, the unborn. In his second public statement, Bishop Araki called the move gravely mistaken, arguing that honoring Durbin, a Catholic lawmaker with a long record of supporting abortion, runs contrary to both moral teachings of the Church and the stated policies of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Chicago Archdiocese itself, which he's correct on all fronts. Important note, too, for those that are wondering, like, Senator Durbin, was he just pro-abortion? Is that all he did? He also supported the Equality Act and the Women's Health Protection Act.
Which would have effectively shut down Catholic schools and hospitals if they did not support abortion on demand or trans and gay ideology. So, just on all fronts, not helpful as a Catholic. So, we got two more bishops to kind of join the fray, so we get Bishop Conley from Nebraska has now spoken out about this, which is great. He said, I, too, was shocked and bewildered to learn of this Lifetime Achievement Award to be presented to a Senator Dick Durbin. The Senator's public record has been consistently pro-abortion.
And he has opposed any protections or safeguards for unborn children in the womb, even to the point of rejecting legislation to protect children who survive failed abortions. That goes against the fundamental moral principles of the Catholic Church. It seems to me that there is still time to reconsider this decision. I pray for the good of the Church this award is not given to Senator Durbin and the scandal it will likely cause. The faithful is avoided. That is on top of Cordelio putting out a statement as well.
Another really good, I mean, this statement was, I don't know. A banger. Yeah, this was a banger. He's actually a two-post. The Archbishop made an argument that I made in the past. Maybe he's listening. He listens to LOOPcast. Maybe I have a friend who works for him. Maybe. Maybe he's listening. Imagine this. A prominent member of the U.S. Senate has a very strong record on defending the human dignity of life in the womb, but also advocates for the funding for Border Patrol agents to shoot people while entering the country illegally.
Would anyone think it is reasonable to honor such a senator for the senator's pro-life record on abortion? No one who advocates for the direct intentional killing of innocent human life should be honored, period. Mm-hmm. So, final question. It's going to be an interesting meeting in November. Yeah.
I don't understand the inner workings of the USCCB. It does seem to me that Cardinal Cupich is just like, I don't care what you say. I'm going to give this to my friend because I like him, and my politics are left-wing, which isn't even, that's just like an obvious observation in my mind to anyone who's seen this, and so now you have some other bishops who are saying, no, you can't do that because it violates our code, basically, here at the USCCB.
What's going to win out? I assume. The preferences of Cardinal Cupich, who's the Cardinal of Chicago? I mean, incidentally, one of the things that came out, like, the last couple days is like, oh, well, actually, the senator lives in Chicago now. He doesn't live in Springfield anymore, so Papaki's really not his bishop. And it's like, actually, no. In April 25th, when you made your announcement, Senator, that you weren't going to run for re-election, you did it where? From your backyard deck in Springfield, Illinois.
So, you're lying through your teeth. By the way, Dick Durbin, the senator from Illinois, he tweeted out in 2023, abortion is a fundamental right. Retreat if you agree. So, I don't know. Cardinal Supish, do you agree or not?
Yeah. Well, maybe he won't retweet. He'll just honor him in another way. Here's the interesting thing about this, though. Supich's argument essentially comes down to, well, I mean, look, the senator is bad on abortion, but he's good on migrants. That's basically why he's giving him this award, right? But no, that's not true. Dick Durbin is bad on migrants, too. He supports an open border, which allows migrants to be exploited through their labor and through their own bodies, through sex.
Trafficking and labor and sex trafficking. So, this idea that, you know, Cupich is trying to get at, that Dick Durbin is good on migrants, but bad on abortion. It is like, no, he is bad on migrants and bad on abortion. He should not be honored at all. It is an absolute travesty, but I think Cupich is not going to back down. No. And so, I will be there with a lot of other pro-lifers on November 3rd to protest. Wow. Wow. I'm sick of this crap.
Good. You would, maybe this is pie in the sky for me, but I'm like, come on, this is Pope Leo, like, Pope Leo's from Chicago. And this isn't, I can see from his position, like the Pope's position, say if you were from Mongolia, that you would have to rely upon the interpretation of someone that understands, say, the area of Chicago, where you wouldn't know. You've never been. You don't understand the people. Pope Leo's from Chicago. He knows Chicago. He understands how American politics works, and he has, like, he can look it up himself and see and read.
He knows perfect English. It would be really nice here to get at least a call. Even if he doesn't have to do it publicly, he could just call Supich and be like, hey, hold this back. You know what I mean? That's a no, right. So, that's just in the back of my head, unfortunately. Yeah, and he may have done, and we'll never know it. Yeah, true. It's possible. Blaise Cupich also. If the Pope called the Cardinal Archbishop of Chicago and asked him not to do something.
We'd know about it. Well, I don't know whether we'd know about it or not. I can't imagine him saying, no, I'm going to go ahead with it. I mean, there's just, I can't imagine a world in which that would happen. Yeah. Sorry, what were you saying, Erika?
Now, I was going to say, Blaise Cupich also, he turned 75 in 2024. He submitted his letter of retirement resignation to Pope Francis in March of 2024, and it would be, maybe it is time. Like, maybe this is the sign. Yeah, yeah. Well, part of the problem is that, you know, every bishop in the United States, every bishop in the world, when they hit 75, as is the custom, they are required to tender their resignation.
And when you are a cardinal, though, usually that you are allowed to stay until you are 80. That is just sort of like the custom. So, there is no, you know, he in Chicago, as well as Dolan in New York, are going to probably be allowed to stay for a few more years. But yeah, that would be, I would love to see him.
Out of there sooner, but what I really like to do is to stop the scandal. There are a lot of people who are going to be harmed from abortion. They will be asking, where were the Catholics? Why weren't they standing up about this? Why didn't they let me know that abortion not only involves the death of my baby, but it harms me physically, emotionally, spiritually, psychologically. It is absolutely horrible for women, and we as a church need to be proud to stand up.
On behalf of women against this insidious act of abortion, and shut down these people who profit off the tears and misery of people. Yeah, I really appreciate that, Josh. I think a lot about Charlie Kirk, too, because people say, oh, this is just kind of a dumb award. Just, you know, no one's going to be there. It's a fundraiser. Like, just kind of let them, whatever. But, like, the truth matters.
It does. And you shouldn't be shamed out of proclaiming the truth, because it's of a significance argument, or an inherency argument. The truth is the truth. It's a fundraiser for a very posh Jesuit high school. Well, I don't know if it's posh. I shouldn't say that, but I'm guessing it's not cheap to go to this Jesuit school in Chicago.
And these are high school kids, and they're going to see that this church of ours honors this man who spent, who was pro-life for about 10 minutes. And then, for the last four years, it has been pro-abortion. What kind of legacy does that?
Yeah, it is bad. Very bad. All right, Josh, Twilight Zone, what have you got? Sorry, I am just getting old. Well, anyway, speaking of civility and public debate, this cranky lady really lost it the other day when she started attacking this effigy of Donald Trump. Oh, my.
Yeah, for the audience, that is a, that is a, a pinata of Trump and, and elderly woman beating it. Yeah, but the best part about it, her shirt, it says on the back, do you want to others as you would have done on to do?
No, no way. I just thought, I mean. Can I ask you? No, I actually have a serious question about this, because I drove by a hysterical, like, side protest. Average age, gotta be 75. There's probably 10 to 15 people there in a very, very wealthy part of suburban Indianapolis. And what is it? What is it about? They were, I feel like the elderly people of 2016 weren't even this crazy. Why, this time around, do you think, it's older, affluent, mostly white people.
Predominantly women. Yeah, women too. I'm just saying, this is what I've observed. I've seen it everywhere. What is it about this time that's making people so angry? I don't know. I guess you should ask her. Come up to her and say, I really like your Make America Kind shirt. Could you explain to me what it is about this guy that just gets you so angry? I feel like... Donald Trump is an absolute two thumbs down on a lot of the aspirations that affluent liberal boomers had about the world.
You know, like, you know, everything that they believed in, like, going to college is awesome, and trades are stupid, and, you know, like, all, you know, getting your degrees, like, they're so worried about credentials, and, you know, to bow your heads and genuflect to academia and to the media, you know, for all their wisdom, and this is what we believe. And America was never great in the first place. All of that. I mean, it's just like, you know, like, look, I mean, I, it's my own mother's very, I mean, she isn't doing this kind of stuff, but she is almost that kind of passionate hatred towards Trump, and it's like, after a while, like, okay, what is it?
I mean, like, you know, Bill Clinton slept around, and you weren't that angry at him, so what is it about it? It's that, is that Donald Trump looks at the last, the project of the post-Cold War world, and says, the emperor's wearing no clothes. Like, this whole idea that I think that there's really, we need to examine this more. I just find it so fascinating, like, you know, like, maybe going to college isn't the best idea in the world. Like, what?
You know, like, maybe everything, maybe the mainstream media is lying to you. Like, what? But we believe in experts and credentials, and, you know, and he's just like, yeah, I think you're stupid. Like, what? But I actually feel bad. I actually feel bad for them. It is not good for anyone to be wallowing in that much negativity and hate, and this kind of performative anger in the communities. That is kind of, unfortunately, bringing people together.
I don't know. Is it because they don't have grandkids, maybe, or you don't have a purpose? You feel like you don't have a purpose? I actually genuinely watch these protesters, and I genuinely feel sorry for them because I love them. You know what I mean? No one should be this angry about anything, you know what I mean? Especially in your old age. Stuff that doesn't affect you either. To hold on to that anger and that hurt and that pain, and I think a huge factor in this.
For the women of that demographic are the scars of the sexual revolution, and I come back to this again and again, but these are women who rejected the idea that they needed a man, or they rejected, that's to put it the nice way, but they embraced this idea of all men are toxic, they rejected motherhood, they rejected the calling of the family and family formation, and it's been just Just drilled into them by the mainstream media, by their own education in these liberal institutions in the 70s and 80s, earlier than that.
And the result is this deep void and wound in their souls, and this is how it comes out. You're 75 years old, and you have a baseball bat with a pinata and a shirt that says, Make America Kind. Yeah, you're right about the things that they rejected. The first thing, though, that they rejected was the Christian view of human sexuality and the family, and I think Brian Birch was the one that first opened my eyes to this and just said, you had so many millions of men go to war in World War II, and they were traumatized by that, and there was no real way to deal with the trauma.
We hear about today like 22 veterans commit suicide. It is a saddening statistic, but we at least have a lot more openness to it. We have commercials. We have VFWs that are going out there. They are trying to work with them.
What really happened in the 1950s, the idea was you were supposed to suck it up, soldier, and you weren't supposed to talk about it because you thought, hey, wait a minute, a lot of these guys didn't make it home, and you're complaining? You made it home. Shut up. Don't complain. And so, you kind of dealt with it. So, if you read Good Housekeeping in 1954, and you're like, Bring your, you know, don't argue with your man. When he comes home, give him a big smile, and hand him a beer, and say, dinner's ready.
And women see that, and they're like, oh my gosh, I want to vomit. How could you, you know, like, what, women are slaves to their men? And it's like, well, actually, you're dealing with. Tens of millions of men who had post-traumatic stress syndrome, and we did not really have the language or the ability or the understanding of how to deal with that, and that is what that was. So, Hillary Clinton's of the world grew up looking at, like, why does dad get the help?
We're going to treat him like a 16th century king, and everything he says is divine, right? So, there's that backlash, right? And so, they say, we need to do it better, and the Bill Clintons are like, yeah, I love women's rights. I'll have sex with whoever you want to, and I won't make you be burdened with a baby, and here we are. Yep.
Here we are. Erika, what do you got? Well, we've been talking about men and women, but in fact, Nature does not do binaries. This, according to Natalie Bennett, who is one of the leading Green Party MPs over in the UK, she posted this this week. You can pull that up.
And she posted a study that's titled, Why Our Organs Cannot Simply Be Classified as Male or Female. And her post was, nature does not do binaries. Anyone who tells you biology is simple is wrong. And then the exact chart that she posted labels. These are the two options for organ hormones. We have male, and we have female. Not only that, but the chart also shows far different bell curves that actually diverge in each of these glands, the mammary gland, the thyroid, the ovitus, the nerve, the pituitary gland, your skin.
All of them are separated, and they manifest differently on a bell curve. A couple of them overlap on parts of the bell curve, male or female. And so, the reader comments, the community notes on this were just brutal. The graphs in the post link show that the sex binary, male or female, and bimodal distribution graphs, and it disproves the poster's claim. Sex in mammals is binary and immutable. As evidenced by the blue and pink. Yeah, blue, and they even color-coded it blue for male.
Sorry, this person has power of any kind? Yeah, she's been a leader. She was a leader in the minor party, the green party. Blue sky in profile, heads up. She's a blue ski. It's great. Yeah, I am really frustrated by this because you have some type of power. You're making something that was so quickly disproved, something that kind of everyone understands in nature.
Um, you're intentionally misleading people to score political points. Yep. In a way that's not best for their human flourishing, that leads to more confusion. It's not going to make them happy. It actually leads to really bad medicine and medical treatment as well. Totally. Totally. This all bleeds over. Sex doesn't matter, and then actually it matters a great deal. Very frustrating to me. I actually heard someone make the point, I've thought a lot about this, that the kind of gender explosion we've experienced over the last 10 years is because we lost, like, emo.
Like, the emo and goth of, like, 10 years before that was an opportunity for people to express that, like, I'm different. I want to be outside of the constraints of society. And then that went away all of a sudden, and then we get replaced with, you know, there's a million genders. You can choose your own binary, because it's just a lot of people expressing, like, hey, I don't feel a part of what's going on right now, so I need to have a way to explain why I'm different or why I feel different.
And this is now an option for a lot of people. Like, I can just be a different sex. A lot of times, people grow out of it anyway, so. Um, I think we need to bring emo back. Like, it's okay. Like, you can just listen to some punk music and, you know, wear eyeliner. Or bring tomboys back. It's okay if you're a young girl and you just like boy stuff. Like, oh, Erika Kirk. Did you see them? She released some family photos this week.
She was a raging tomboy when she was like eight years old. She liked to play ball. She would wear just shorts and a striped t-shirt. She's got her hair cut short. And now look at her. Like plenty of people that I knew and that we all knew growing up. I just think the, um. Yeah. The push to make people change their section and to live a lifestyle not in accord with nature is not organic. It was done by activists, as evidenced by a lot of the early documents after the ball, if anyone's curious about what that was, and it's not good for people's souls, and it makes me sad.
It's like immediately disqualifying for a public representative to throw something like this up there, and it was really smart of the Trump administration to make that a disqualifying issue and actually lean into that in the culture wars. Thank you for that, Erika. Mine, speaking of what we could have had, so we're getting the book tour from Kamala Harris, and just every day, I wake up. The burn book. The burn book tour. I thank my lucky stars that this is not what we have going on.
So, I found this quite instructive of an ideology that we were about to get on all of us. So, she was asked about why she didn't choose Pete Buttigieg as her running mate. Pretty directly by Rachel Maddow, and I cannot, it's kind of like the Trump weave, like Kamala has her own version of that, and this is what we got. I wonder if his reaction to that, since this part of the book has come out, if you've had any reflection on that, or...
I guess I'd ask you to just elaborate on that a little bit. It's hard to hear with you running as, you know, you're the first woman elected vice president. You're a black woman and a South Asian woman elected to that high office, very nearly elected president. To say that he couldn't be on the ticket effectively because he was gay is hard to hear. No, no, no. That's not what I said, that he couldn't be on the ticket because he is gay.
My point, as I write in the book, is that I was clear that in 107 days, in one of the most hotly contested elections for President of the United States, against someone like Donald Trump, who knows no floor.
To be a black woman running for president of the United States, and as a vice presidential running mate, a gay man, with the stakes being so high, it made me very sad, but I also realized it would be a real risk.
No matter how, you know, I've been an advocate and an ally of the LGBT community my entire life, so it wasn't about any prejudice on my part, but we had such a short period of time, and the stakes were so high. I think Pete is a phenomenal.
I'm a phenomenal public servant, and I think America is and would be ready for that, but when I had to make that decision with two weeks to go, and maybe I was being too cautious, I'll let our friends, we should all talk about that.
You have taken this, Josh. Yeah, I mean, it would be a distraction. I mean, the first gay vice president that we know of would have been news, obviously, and so she's only got 107 days. The more attention and attraction her running mate gets, the less it focuses on her ability. She's got 107 days to be able to sell who she is and what her campaign is. So, it's not like you want a bland vanilla candidate. You want somebody you pick who would be...
Who would buttress your arguments rather than, oh, this will be the first person who's, you know, it would have been the same case if you had put somebody who was in a wheelchair, you know, like, oh, that's the first person in a wheelchair since FDR, but we didn't know FDR, and all the people started talking about that.
Focus. Focus on what I'm actually trying to do for president. So, I actually agree with that, in a sense. It would have been a distraction, rather than, you only want a vice presidential running mate who's going to help you, rather than distract from what you're trying to get done. So, Tim Walz. By the way, I do think Pete Buttigieg has a real problem.
If he tries to run for president, because black voters do look, they do consider it much more negatively than the rest of the white voters in the Democratic Party, black men especially, more so than white women, and so, you know, whoever's running for president has got to go through South Carolina and the Democratic Party first, which is, you know, one out of the three voters there in the Democratic Party, I think it's even more than that, are black, and so that's going to be a major factor.
So, I mean, it is because he's kind of, you know, it is because he's gay, but like, it doesn't mean that she's, I don't think she has any animus towards gays. No, me neither. Oh, no. But, I get it. You have any number of people you can pick, and why would you pick someone over another person? She also eventually admits that she didn't choose Josh Shapiro because he's Jewish, and the implications that come with that. I do think it's like a funny catch-22 because, I mean, Josh, you're aware of this.
Politics are pragmatic. As much as people like to think it's all about ideals and idealism, sure, the message is part of it. At the end of the day, in American politics, it's all about... You've got to win. You've got to put together a winning formula. It's kind of the reason I think Trump chose Mike Pence back in the day, because he was really vanilla and he wouldn't outshine him. There was no one that was going to... And help him at the time, the Christian conservatives, right?
Right, and so you pick people to help you out. But now that she has to go on the book tour and... You know, now you need to talk, you basically need to change it from the reality of it, which are super pragmatic, and like, you need to win over these different groups and build a coalition based on like, where Americans are at, not where you want them to be. And then, but now she has to pretend like, oh, no, it's like, you know, it's all about ideals, or it just, it feels kind of, the fact she's on the book tour is kind of...
Well, I think what it amounts to is she's trying to say, like, I have 107 days to be able to try to make some of these very critical decisions, you know, like... And you're, you don't want, she's not wanting to blame Biden for making it, you know, such a shortened time frame, but I've said this from the beginning. Joe Biden's decision to run for re-election was what doomed the party. Like, if he would have opened it up, and I'm glad, obviously, he didn't, but if he had opened it up.
The primary, at the beginning of the year, if you had done like LBJ and said, I'm not running, I'm not a candidate, then you would have had an opportunity for Kamala or Gavin and everyone else to run for president. Then Kamala could have said, if she became the nominee, she could have said, look, I won. I made my case to the voters, but she had nothing. She was elected vice president. Yes, I get that part, but people didn't vote for her in 2020.
They voted for him, mostly. She did go back on The View. Which is where she said, you know, what separates you from Biden? They threw that softball, and she said, nothing I can think of. I was like, oh, that was probably, though.
That was a problem. So, okay, we went way over. We had a lot to say. It was the first time live back in a little while. Yeah. Hope you guys enjoyed the little extra loop cast. Nice to be back together. A little bonus extra loop cast for your Wednesday. I dressed up for the occasion. Yeah. Yeah, Josh dressed up. He's looking great. He's about to go, you know, deliver.
So, things you can do to help us out. Leave a review. Apple Podcasts and Spotify is where you can do that. We have a fantastic deep coming out for you on Thursday. You can get that on YouTube. So, go ahead and subscribe over there. Get ready for that.
Erika has been killing it on the deep. Great job. Thanks, Josh. Hey, it is a team effort. Team effort. I mean, killing it. Killing it. I love it. It has been fun. And then also, check out our sponsors and join the Champions Club. It is the best way to support us. CatherineVoet.org slash champions is where you can do that. I am not sure you are aware, but we are praying at St. Michael Novena right now.
So, I will share this beautiful artwork here. So, it's going on from September 20th to 29th. I know we're in the middle of it. It is not too late to pledge to pray, if you would like to join, and all the other people here at CatholicVote, praying this St. Michael Novena for the renewal of America. I can't think of a better time to do that. So, I'm going to end with the St. Michael prayer, and encourage you guys, Selene, if you want to throw that link in there, we'll have it in the description too.
Sign up, join us in prayer. It's honestly, outside of anything else we do, it's the most important thing that we can do. So, I'm now with St. Michael prayer, and I'll send you guys off. In the name of the Father, Son. Holy Spirit, amen. St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world, seeking the ruins of souls.
Amen. St. Thomas More, St. Fidelis, Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us, and we'll see you guys on the next one. Thanks for tuning in. See you then. Peace.
