Pope Denounces Violence in Iran, Congress to Vote on War Powers, the FBI Investigates Attack in TX

As casualties mount in the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, Pope Leo XIV urged all parties to return to diplomacy and reverse the cycle of violence during his Sunday Angelus Address. President Donald Trump announced major combat operations against Iran early Saturday. He said the conflict, which has reportedly resulted in the death of Iran's supreme leader, could last about four weeks. Archbishop Paul Coakley, president of the U.S. CCB, echoed the Pope's plea for diplomacy and warned that The growing conflict risks spiraling into a wider regional war.

Meanwhile, Congress is preparing the way in. Both the House and the Senate are expected to vote this week on resolutions that would require Trump to seek congressional approval before any further military force on Iran. While most Democrats have criticized the strikes, some broke with party leadership to defend them. A handful of Republicans, however, have raised constitutional concerns about war powers The FBI is investigating a deadly shooting in Austin, Texas, as a potential act of terrorism. Three people were killed, and 14 others were wounded outside a crowded downtown bar early Sunday.

The suspect, 53-year-old Njaga Djan, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Senegal, was reportedly wearing clothing that said, Property of Allah.
