SUPREME COURT ALLOWS MIFEPRISTONE SALES WHILE LOUSIANA CASE PROCEEEDS
The Supreme Court on May 14 declined to immediately restore in-person safeguards for the abortion pill mifepristone, allowing companies to keep offering mail-order abortion drugs online while a Louisiana-led lawsuit proceeds in lower courts.
ACTING FDA HEAD PLEDGES TO SERVE PRO-LIFE CAUSE
The new Acting Food and Drug Administration Commissioner, Kyle Diamantas, faced an immediate outcry from pro-life leaders when he took on the role this week following the ouster of former FDA Commissioner Marty Makary. Diamantas once performed legal services for a Planned Parenthood affiliate, but reportedly has now contacted several national pro-life organizations to pledge his loyalty to the cause of life.
CHINA OPEN TO BUYING US OIL, UNBENDING ON TAIWAN
During President Donald Trump's round of talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Xi expressed openness to buying some U.S. oil to lessen China's dependence on Iran. According to the White House, Xi also agreed that the Hormuz Strait should be opened and Iran should not be allowed to have a nuclear weapon. China remains unbending in its hostility to Taiwan, however, and warned of future "conflicts" with the U.S. unless Trump removes arms support from the island.
OFFICIALS DISTANCE SYNOD FROM REPORT ON SAME-SEX ATTRACTION
A spokesperson for the General Secretariat of the Synod has distanced the entity from a recently released controversial final report on same-sex attraction by a Synod on Synodality study group.
