HAMAS AGREES TO SURRENDER WEAPONS ON CONDITION OF ISRAELI WITHDRAWAL
Hamas has agreed to surrender control of its weapons and cede Gaza’s governance to a Palestinian technocratic government in exchange for a phased Israeli withdrawal under President Donald Trump’s peace plan. Trump hailed the agreement as a “historic breakthrough." Israel has not yet formally signed on.
FLORIDA AG TO BISHOPS: GIVE VAX EXEMPTIONS OR RISK VOUCHERS
Florida Republican Attorney General James Uthmeier says Catholic schools that reject parents' religious exemptions from vaccine mandates could lose access to state scholarships and vouchers. In a letter to Florida's bishops, Uthmeier, a Catholic, called the policy especially troubling for a Church that defends conscience and unborn life. He gave the bishops until August 7 to explain their position or comply with state law.
TRUMP STRIPS DEI-STYLE ‘DISPARATE IMPACT’ FRAMEWORK FROM FEDERAL HIRING
The Office of Personnel Management removed references to a 1978 framework that treated unequal hiring outcomes among racial, sex, or ethnic groups as potential evidence of discrimination even without proof of discriminatory intent. Director Scott Kupor said the rule ensures federal hiring is based on “merit, qualifications, and the ability to perform the job,” while preserving job-analysis and anti-discrimination requirements.

CHURCH ATTACKS TRIPLE AS ACTIVE-SHOOTER INCIDENTS JUMP 42%
The FBI counted 34 active-shooter incidents in 2025, a 42% jump from 2024, while attacks at houses of worship tripled from one to three. The three church attacks killed six people and wounded 37; the back-to-school Mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis produced 30 casualties, the highest count of any active-shooter incident that year.

The Holy See called homelessness an affront to human dignity and urged investment in affordable housing and integrated services. It also said people who have experienced homelessness should play an active role in shaping solutions, rebuilding their lives, and contributing to the common good.

Capizzi says that even when nations resort to war, “it’s not anything goes." Force must be a last resort, distinguish military from civilian targets, and remain proportionate.
