Pro-life advocates are applauding the introduction of the Supporting Newborn Parents Act, legislation that would provide eligible working families with a newborn tax credit of up to $2,000 following the birth of a child.
In a June 8 press release, National Right to Life, the country’s oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization, hailed H.R. 8806, noting that the proposal would help parents cover the significant expenses that often accompany the birth of a child, such as diapers, formula, and various medical costs.
Introduced May 13 by Republican Rep. David Valadao of California, the bill would allow eligible parents to receive the benefit shortly after a child’s birth rather than waiting until tax filing season. H.R. 8806 was sent later that day to the House Committee on Ways and Means, where it awaits further consideration.
Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life, praised the bill for helping ensure that parents “receive meaningful support during one of the most important transitions in their lives.”
“For decades,” Tobias said, “National Right to Life has advocated for policies that affirm the dignity of every human life and create a culture that values life. The Supporting Newborn Parents Act offers practical assistance when families need it most.”
