York Revolution, a minor league baseball team in Pennsylvania, canceled its 11th annual “Pride Night” game scheduled for June 18 after several players refused to wear uniforms featuring a rainbow design.
The organization announced the cancellation June 17 in an official statement, saying that the decision to cancel the game was “not reached lightly.”
“Unfortunately,” the statement read, “several of our players have refused to wear the scheduled Pride Night jersey and the club decided that hosting the event is more important than forcing players to wear jerseys they are not comfortable with and playing the game.”
The decision resulted in the forfeiture of the June 18 game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at WellSpan Park in York.
However, in lieu of the game, the organization said “Pride Night” will serve as the evening's “feature element. The statement described the event as a “free and fun celebration of recognition and inclusion.”
“We feel that this is the best way to stay consistent with our long-standing partnerships with the Rainbow Rose Center, JLS Automation and the long list of allies that have always been key partners of the York Revolution’s success in York, Pennsylvania,” the statement added.
In the statement, team officials further condemned their own players' refusal to wear the Pride Night jerseys.
“To be clear,” it read, “this action by the players is completely inconsistent with our vision as the Most Welcoming Place in York.”
The organization also announced that they will be donating $10,000 to the York and Adams county-based Rainbow Rose Center “as a small token of our regret for the last-minute change of plans and support for our LGBTQIA+ representing partners.”
According to WGAL, an NBC affiliate, tickets for the June 18 game will be treated as a rainout and may be redeemed for any future 2026 regular-season home game. The outlet also reported that the team expects to return to the field June 19.
