Pollster: 84% of Gen Z Democrats view socialism favorably
An OnMessage pollster said the findings suggest Democratic voters are encouraging their party to embrace socialism.
Eighty-four percent of Generation Z Democrats view socialism favorably, according to an OnMessage survey cited in an Oct. 4 Daily Signal report.
OnMessage pollster Henry Parkhurst told the outlet that “a majority of Democrats of all ages” hold favorable views of socialism. Among voters overall, more than 30% expressed a favorable view, the outlet reported.
The survey polled 800 American voters July 12-16 using text-to-web interviews, according to the report. Thirty-five percent of respondents identified as Democrats.
The findings come ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections, when Democrats seek to regain control of Congress.
“While the national Democratic Party may claim to be divided on how far they’re willing to lean into socialism, their voters clearly show they’re encouraging the party to move in that direction,” Parkhurst told The Daily Signal.
The survey oversampled voters younger than 45, yielding about 600 Gen Z and millennial respondents for further analysis. The outlet reported an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points but did not specify the sample size or margin of error for Gen Z Democrats.
Vice President JD Vance has in recent months warned Republicans to address the economic pressures that he argues contribute to socialism’s appeal among young Americans. In encouraging support for the GOP ahead of midterms, Vance has touted President Donald Trump’s economic agenda, and lawmakers have pushed for legislation aimed at lowering costs.
