DOJ Delivers Major Win - 9/10/26

One of New York's largest hospitals is ending transgender procedures on children. In an agreement with the Justice Department, Mount Sinai Health System has agreed to stop providing children with so-called transgender medical interventions, including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgical procedures. The hospital system will also pay an undisclosed penalty and dedicate $2 million to provide free medical care to people suffering harmful consequences from gender-related treatments they received as minors. A report by the Department of Health and Human Services cited Mount Sinai as the nation's highest billing provider of gender-related treatments for minors, with more than $8.2 million in submitted charges from 2019 through 2023, according to the advocacy group Do No Harm.

Attorney General Todd Blanch said the agreement puts an end to these practices at Mount Sinai and provides meaningful relief. For individuals who have already suffered harm, the Department of Justice launched a nationwide investigation after President Donald Trump signed a January 2025 executive order directing the federal government to withhold funding and support from medical efforts to transition children.
